St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Christ of Salisbury presented three endowment scholarships on May 17.

Chris Morgan received the Carmon A. Wilson Scholarship. He is attending Mitchell Community College and is working toward an associate’s degree in agribusiness.

“It is my goal to utilize this degree to not only continue my family heritage, but to educate all the future farmers, to empower and educate those with small family farms and to ensure that agriculture thrives, as it is imperative for food production for our society,” Morgan siad.

His parents are Christine and the late Perry Morgan of China Grove.

Daniel Flanagan received the William J. Shulenburger Scholarship. He will attend North Carolina State University this fall to obtain a degree in agronomy with a minor in mechanics.

Flanagan helps his grandfather, Don Yost, with his farm and would like to help manage it later in life. He loves his family and wants to live in Salisbury and have a happy family of his own some day. He wants God to play a big part of his family’s future.

Daniel is the son of Robert and Maria Flanagan of Salisbury.

Alexander Yost also received the William J. Shulenburger scholarship. He currently attends North Carolina State University and will graduate in the fall of 2015 with a degree in agricultural business management.

Yost said he has always had a fascination with the land.

”I enjoy being outside working with the outdoors, which broadened my views and drove my pursuit in agriculture. I have been a member of St. Mark’s my entire life, and the people that are in this church have impacted my walk with God in many ways,” he said.

Alex is the son of William and Anita Yost of Salisbury.
