Area Sports Briefs: Southern Rowan rolls 11-2

Southern Rowan’s American Legion baseball team won 11-2 at Stanly County’s Don Montgomery Park on Sunday.
Matt Honeycutt, Chandler Corriher and Jake Pritchard had three hits each. Honeycutt and Chase Labbe drove in two runs each.
Southern Rowan (5-2) pounded out 19 hits.
It was 4-2 after seven innings, but Southern Rowan scored three runs in the eighth and four in the ninth.
Dillon Atwell pitched five innings.
Southern Rowan is home Tuesday against Kannapolis.
• Rowan County was rained out at Davidson County on Sunday and is home Monday against Mooresville.
• In other non-league games on Sunday, Kannapolis beat Concord 12-3, while Eastern Randolph topped Mocksville 5-4.

Robinson honored
North Rowan’s Demeria Robinson was named Female Athlete of the Year for the Central Carolina Conference.
Robinson was conference co-player of the year in basketball and all-conference in volleyball and soccer.
Lexington’s Nolan Benson was named CCC Male Athlete of the Year.

Intimidators
The Kannapolis Intimidators won 7-5 at Hagerstown on a rainy Sunday.
Yency Almonte wasn’t sharp but made it through five innings and raised his record to 4-2.
The Intimidators’ bullpen keyed the victory with four shutout innings. David Trexler pitched three innings, while Jefferson Alacio worked the ninth for a save.

IRVING, Texas — Steven Bowditch closed with a 5-under 64 for a four-shot victory Sunday in the AT&T Byron Nelson, winning in the Australian’s adopted home for his second career title — both in Texas.
Bowditch had 27 birdies while becoming the seventh player to lead all four rounds of the event. He finished at 18-under 259 on the rain-altered layout.
