There will be hotdogs, drinks and prayer. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The event aims to highlight Feeding the Hungry outreach (while supplies last), as well as the Project’s resource center which focuses on community, outreach, vocation and education.

China Grove — During the 11 a.m. service on Sunday at Mount Zion UCC, there will be a dedication service for the 21 youth and adult chaperones participating in this year’s Mount Zion UCC mission trip. The mission trip is heading to Guilderland Center, outside of Albany, N.Y. to help repair homes and serve those in need. This is the 20th year that Mount Zion UCC youth have participated in a summer mission trip.

The congregation of First United Methodist Church will host a service of celebration and thanksgiving to God for the ministry of The Rev. Stephen David Haines Sunday at both the 8:30 and 11 a.m. services, concluding Rev. Haines’ 40 years of ministry to the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Music for the services includes anthems of Mozart, Vaughan Williams and Rutter. The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be observed.
Following the 11 a.m. service, the staff-parish relations committee will host a reception in the fellowship hall, during which time presentations will be made.

St. Luke Baptist Church, Hawkinstown Road, will celebrate Scholarship Day on Sunday at the 10 a.m. service.
Guest speaker will be St. Luke’s own Blair Streater, a June 2014 graduate of Princeton University with a bachelor of arts degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and a certificate in Biodiversity and Conservation Environmental Studies.
She participated in the study abroad program, spending one semester in Panama studying the ecological systems, and also spent a summer camped on Shackleford Banks, N.C., assisting the National Park Service in monitoring the wild horse population.
Streater plans to work with Nash Healthcare Systems of Rocky Mount and apply to medical school in preparation for a career specializing in pediatric cardiology.

The Rowan and Davie County Deacon’s Alliance Inc. will host its annual gospel singing extravaganza on Sunday at 3 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church of Salisbury.
Choirs and praise dancers from in- and out-of-town are scheduled to perform. Proceeds from this program will go to the homeless and needy families of the community.

FAITH — Faith Lutheran Church will celebrate Independence Day at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The service will begin with the posting of the American Flag and the Christian Flag. The pledge of allegiance and the national anthem will follow.
Tony Herrin, Tim Williams and pastor Randy Conley will sing the call to worship.
The entire service will have a patriotic theme including the confession, prayers, scripture readings and hymns.
The readings for the day will answer the questions: What does God require of a nation, What is the Proper use of Freedom and What is Genuine Freedom.
Williams will provide the children’s message and the sermon will be delivered by pastor Conley.
The chancel choir will sing “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” accompanied by Daisy Bost on piano and Joe Williams on drums. Faith Lutheran is located at 205 S. Main St.
Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2300 Bringle Ferry Road, will welcome the musical group Soul Purpose to its Fifth Sunday Night Singing on June 29 at 6 p.m.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 W. Innes St., is hosting its annual Community Celebration of Liberty service, at 11 a.m. Sunday.
The St. John’s Men’s Chorus will perform. There will be brass and drum, along with patriotic readings and hymns.

Cornerstone Church, 315 Webb Road, will host Christian recording artist Vicki Yohe on Sunday at 10 a.m. This event is free and open to the public.
Yohe wrote and sang her first song at the age of 5. She celebrated her 10th CD and 20 years of full-time ministry with her latest project titled “I’m at Peace,” recorded live in Nashville and released in September 2011.
Vicki has ministered in song alongside Bill Winston, Benny Hinn, T.D. Jakes, Kenneth Copeland, Creflo Dollar, Darlene Bishop and Paula White as well as at a prayer breakfast at the Pentagon.
FAITH — The Gospel Plowboys will be singing Sunday night as part of the Faith Fourth of July celebration in Faith. The singing will get underway at 7:30 p.m. in the park.
Contemporary Christan band Mountains & the Sea will be in concert at The Inn on Tuesday at 7 p.m. along with Arms of Mercy, Andy Morrison, Sabrie & Kaitlyn and Eryn Hilburn.

HICKORY — The Rev. Gaven M. Mize was recently installed as pastor of Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, Hickory.
Rev. Mize grew up in China Grove and graduated from South Rowan High School in 2001.
He entered the pre-seminary program at Concordia University of Mequon, Wis. and graduated with a bachelors of arts in Pastoral Ministry and a minor in Theological Languages — Konie’ Greek, Biblical Hebrew and Ecclesiastical Latin.
After his graduation from Concordia, he was accepted into Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind. and graduated in 2009 with a Master of Divinity degree.
Mize served for nearly three years at Divine Savior Lutheran Church in Shepherdsville, Ky. before being called to Augustana.
