As my grade school career comes to a close, I can’t help but to be excited and incredibly anxious to begin my college career and open a new chapter in my life. I am undoubtedly filled with emotions as I look back on my experiences and prepare for the future.

Being a product of North Rowan education since kindergarten, I have had the opportunity to be instructed by some of the finest teachers in the state of North Carolina, in my opinion. Without the guidance and support of my educators, I would not be where I am today. Thank you for taking your job to the next level and providing me with such extraordinary knowledge, regardless of the reputations the schools may have. (Which, by the way, are completely false.)

Throughout my childhood and adolescence, I have encountered many obstacles. Even though rough patches are an inevitable part of life, I am incredibly grateful to have amazing parents and family to help me through them. My middle school years were especially tough, and without the support of my parents, I probably would not have survived the relentless bullying I endured. Thank you for loving me unconditionally.

To my colleagues at the Salisbury Post, I will be forever indebted to you. You all have taught me so much about what it takes to be a reporter and have provided me with the skills it takes to work in media. I will always remember you all for cultivating my desire to be a journalist. Jeanie, working with you specifically has been a joy. I thank you for taking on an intern and trusting me with various duties.

In the fall, I will begin my tenure as a student at Catawba College. Having visited the campus several times for admissions events, I have gotten to know some pretty incredible people, including professors, staff and other students. I am thrilled that I found the perfect fit right here in Rowan County. Thank you to the staff at Catawba College who work to make all of the students feel like family and make sure we are comfortable.

To the people of Rowan County, thank you for reading my articles and welcoming me to events. The insight I have received from interacting with local residents has allowed me to view my future career as a reporter in an entirely different light. You haven’t seen the last of me.
