Students of Diane Freeman perform in recital

The voice and piano students of Diane Freeman performed in recital on Saturday, June 6 at 7 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Tabernacle in Salisbury.

Performing vocal solos were Bella Altemare, Skylar Barnhardt, Reagan Carpenter, Amelia Evans, Aubrey Hendren, Gracie Hudson, Drake Jones, Dorothy Malone, and Chloe Mullinax and Noah Nisbet.

Performing Piano solos were Sophie Altemare, Skylar Barnhardt, Philip Barnhardt, Reagan Carpenter, Amelia Evans, Nancy Gamewell, Aubrey Hendren, Gracie Hudson, and Drake Jones.

Each student received special recognition for their memorization efforts this year as well as performance opportunities within their church, school and community.

Nancy Gamewell received a third place ribbon for Advanced level piano memorization.
Aubrey Hendren received the trophy for outstanding vocal performance for 2015.

Bella Altemare, Reagan Carpenter, Gracie Hudson, Dorothy Malone and Chloe Mullinax received certificates for their Superior rating in vocal performance at the North Carolina Federation of Music Clubs which was held on March 7, 2015.

Nancy Gamewell received a certificate for her Superior performance in piano solo along with Drake Jones and Reagan Carpenter who also received certificates for their Piano Solo participation in the NCFMC. Nancy Gamewell received her 15 point Gold Cup from the NCFMC commerating her Superior efforts for 3 years.

Amelia Evans, Chloe Mullinax and Reagan Carpenter performed a vocal trio to “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?”
Sophie Altemare, Skylar Barnhardt, Philip Barnhardt and Chloe Mullinax and Noah Nisbet received neck ribbon medals in recognition of their first recital.

James Bristol, John Bristol, Michael Bristol, Tom Bristol, Landrie Hess, Benjamyn Hogan, Bethany Hogan, Brooke Keller, Lexi Kluttz, Connor Kyles, Colin Misenheimer, Julian Malnar, Merritt Mason, Camrie Sifford, Celia Sifford and Olivia Smith. Pre-recorded music was provided by Addi Bost, Jacob Safrit, Jadyn Safrit, Jackson Safrit, Braden Shive and Bryson Shive who could not be in attendance.

Jacob Safrit received the trophy for Outstanding Piano Memorization and Olivia Smith received the trophy for Outstanding Piano Performance.

Receiving ribbons for memorization were Braden Shive, Colin Misenheimer, Bethany Hogan and Jadyn Safrit.
Students were recognized for their achievements in performance including church, civic, school, and talent shows.
Students received certificates for their participation in the North Carolina Festival of Music Clubs.

The following students received a piano solo 15 point Gold Cup for Superior ratings: Tom Bristol, Julian Malnar, Jacob Safrit and Olivia Smith.

The following students received a 30 point Gold Cup in piano solo: Addi Bost, Jackson Safrit and Jadyn Safrit. Jackson Safrit received a 30 point Gold Cup for hymn playing as well.

Salisbury Symphony announces new board

The Salisbury-Rowan Symphony Society members have elected their new Board of Directors. New members include Mrs. Andrea Anders, Mrs. Mary Miller James, Mrs. Laura Lewis, Mrs. Kay W. Norman, Mr. Marty Richards, Ms. Angela Fowler Smith, Mrs. Susan Trivette, Ms. Lane Wallace, Mr. Michael Frencher, Jr., and Mr. Hunter Safrit.

Mrs. Jean Wurster will serve as President of the Board, assisted by Mr. John Brincefield as Vice President. Mrs. Rosemary Kinard will be the new Secretary. Other volunteers serving on the Board include Dr. Mary Frances Edens, Dr. Martha West, Mrs. Betsy Rich, Jerry Cochran, Mr. Tim Gudger, Mrs. Teresa Moore-Mitchell, Dr. Bethany Sinnott, Ms. Jordan Warren, and Mr. Robert Van Geons. Mrs. Ashley Shoaf, President of the Friends of the Symphony (formerly the Salisbury Symphony Guild), represents the fund-raising group of the Symphony Society and is a voting member of the Board.

Susan Trivette, one of the new Board members, is retiring from her position as the Symphony’s Education Director; Mrs. Nancy Barrow is the new Education Director, beginning July 1. Mrs. Barrow brings a wealth of experience with her, including 9-1/2 years as a General Music Instructor and Choral Director at the Middle School level in the Rowan-Salisbury School System. She holds a BA in Music Education and MS in School Counseling and currently serves as Organist for Shiloh United Methodist Church in Granite Quarry.

Continuing their tradition of including young people, the Board welcomes Livingstone College music student Michael Frencher, Jr. and Catawba College music student Hunter Safrit. Ms. Jordan Warren, recent graduate of Catawba College, has asked to remain on the Board and has agreed to serve as an officer with the Friends of the Symphony.

Price High School National Alumni to meet June 26-28

The J. C. Price High School National Alumni Association will hold its reunion June 26-28.

Courtyard by Marriott on East Innes Street will serve as the host hotel. Full registration cost of $65 includes national dues ($25), fish fry ($15) and dinner/dance ($30). Attendees may also purchase tickets for individual events. The Class of 1965 will observe its 50th reunion with special activities.

Registration, ticket purchases and hospitality events will be held Friday, June 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Marriott.

The fish fry will be at the former school campus on West Bank Street from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The dinner/dance fundraiser for the national scholarship fund will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at 405 North Lee Street (formerly The Black Box near the corner of Lee and Kerr streets) and Mix and Mingle activities will be held at the hotel.

Rowan Class of 1970 Reunion

CLEVELAND — The West Rowan High Scholl Class of 1970 will celebrate 45 years with a social and BBQ dinner on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 4:30 until 9 p.m.

BHS/SHS Class of 70 45th High School Reunion

The Boyden High School/Salisbury High School Class of 1970 will hold its 45th reunion on Saturday, Oct. 3.

The Class Of ’70’ Memorial Run/Walk will be held that Saturday at 9 a.m. at Knox Middle School.

 All patriotic music and benefit concerts

The Piedmont Choral Society, joined by community singers, will present its 12th annual series of All Patriotic Music and benefit concerts. The music presented is all patriotic, mostly familiar songs with lots of audience participation. All military service personnel, both active and veteran, and their families will be honored and recognized.

Since 2004, the group has raised almost $25,000 for local non-profits through these concerts. This year’s beneficiary is the Cooperative Christian Ministry Crisis Center (CCM). A representative will be present at the concert to discuss the various programs. All proceeds from the Thursday, June 25 concert will go to CCM.

The concerts are free. A free will offering will be accepted. Concert schedule is:

Thursday, June 25 at 7 p.m.: Benefit Concert for CCM at Forest Hill United Methodist Church, 265 Union Street N., Concord. The concert will be repeated on Friday, June 26 at 7 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 201 Vance St., Kannapolis and Sunday, June 28 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 200 Branchview Drive, Concord.
