From staff reports
The Delmarva Shorebirds erupted for six runs in the fifth inning and beat the Kannapolis Intimidators 13-5 on Monday at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
Kannapolis (32-32) committed four errors as it’s season-long four-game winning streak came to an end.
Alexander Simon went 4-for-4 with a homer, double and three RBIs for the Inimidators.
Kannapolis hurler Spencer Adams retired the first 10 batters he faced, but the Shorebirds built a 6-1 lead with a big fifth inning. Phildrick Llewellyn hit a two-run go-ahead double.
The Intimidators are home on Tuesday against Hagerstown.

Junior Legion
Carson romped 15-1 at Concord on Monday.
Cameron Prugh, Zack Lee and Sollie Holshouser got the job done on the mound.
Pearce Wilhelm had two hits and four RBIs. Brycen Holshouser had two RBIs. Karson Beacham and Logan Ridenhour scored three runs each.
Carson plays at home on Tuesday vs. West Forsyth.

Local golf
Tony Medlin made a hole-in-one at Warrior on Monday.
Medlin aced the 119-yard No. 3 hole with an 8-iron.
Witnessing the feat were Rick Carty, Gary Craver, Mike Burton and Ronnie Furr.

Fishing
Robert Barrett of Youngsville, N.C., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 19 pounds, 5 ounces Saturday to win the third Walmart Bass Fishing League Piedmont Division tournament of the season on High Rock Lake.
Barrett earned $4,806.
Lexington’s Robert Mixon place second with 18 pounds, 8 ounces and won $2,403.
Salisbury’s Spence Bruson (16-6, $1,121) placed fourth. Salisbury’s Tommy Jones (15-0, $881) placed sixth.

College baseball
OMAHA, Neb. — Arkansas’ trip to the College World Series was over quickly, and coach Dave Van Horn had no regrets.
The Razorbacks, after all, weren’t expected to make it this far, not after entering April as a .500 team and going into the postseason with a pitching staff sorely lacking depth.
After Miami’s Jacob Heyward delivered the walk-off RBI single that beat Arkansas 4-3 on Monday, the mood around the Hogs afterward was surprisingly upbeat.
The Hurricanes (50-16) move to a Wednesday game against Virginia or Florida. The Razorbacks (40-25) went two-and-out at the CWS for only the second time in eight appearances.
“You’ll never see me shed a tear,” coach Dave Van Horn said, “when you finish your season in Omaha.”
Heyward’s two-run homer in the fifth opened the scoring, but the Hogs came back to tie. After Heyward came home for the go-ahead run in the eighth, Arkansas responded with a nice piece of hitting from Brett McAfee, who made it 3-3 with a hit through a hole in the right side of the infield.
Arkansas loaded the bases in the ninth, but Miami’s Bryan Garcia (6-2) got Nomura to ground out to end the threat.
Heyward, younger brother of St. Louis outfielder Jason Heyward, hit a two-run homer and reached base all four times he went to the plate.
