Drama at Rhema Praise and Worship

SPENCER – Rhema Praise and Worship’s Drama Ministry presents the inspirational play “Forgiven,” written by Evangelist DaaKeya Williams, today at 4 p.m. Admission is free, but a free will offering will be taken up. The church is located at 117 Long Ferry Road, led by Deaconess Suzette Bailey.

Fun in the Sun at Mount Zion

Fun in the Sun is part of the 148th homecoming celebration at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Shirley Ave. Events are today from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. there will be games, face painting, prizes, food, vendors and more.

Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church celebrates 148th homecoming

The congregation of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Salisbury Inc. will celebrate its 148^th annual homecoming this weekend. Events begin today at 11 a.m. with a fellowship picnic on the church campus. Activities include a youth fashion show, church history exhibit and slide show, recreation, and food.

At the morning worship at 10:55 a.m., the Creative Expressions Ministry, Music Ministry of Mount Zion, and the Rev. Dr. Nilous M. Avery II, pastor, will lead the worship. Dress this year is “Sunday Best.”

The Rev.William H. Clayton, pastor of Saint James Missionary Baptist Church in Henderson, is guest speaker. Clayton is a graduate of North Carolina A & T State University, Greensboro, and Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service, Atlanta, Ga. He has done theological and graduate studies at Shaw University Divinity School in Raleigh, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary of Wake Forest and Virginia Union School of Theology, Richmond, Va.

The late Rev. Harry Cowan, a former slave, founded Mount Zion in 1867. Cowan is recognized as a founding father of African-American Baptists in Rowan County and throughout North Carolina. Mount Zion is the second oldest church among African-American Baptists in Salisbury. Rev. Cowan’s contributions have been honored with a state historic marker on North Main Street.

Faith Lutheran Church celebrates freedom

FAITH — Faith Lutheran Church, 205 S. Main St., will have a special Independence Day Worship Celebration of our Freedom on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. Note the change in worship time.

The service will begin with a choral prelude by the Faith Lutheran Men’s Chorus. The American Flag and the Christian Flag will be presented and posted by Harry Evans and Ted Peeler, followed by a Lee Roberts, Tony Herrin and Tim Williams singing “Under God,” followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the Star Spangled Banner.

There will be special music by the Chancel Choir, directed by Tony Herrin and accompanied by Daisy Bost, organist.

Holy Baptism will be celebrated for Asher Vinson, infant son of Brad and Brandon Vinson The Rev. William Ketchie is interim pastor.

12th annual Celebrate America Service at Cornerstone

Alexis Greer (Board of Governors, Piedmont Players and star of several Piedmont Players Theatre productions) has written and is directing this dramatic presentation that promises to reignite your love for the red, white and blue. Landis First Assembly

Leroy Cannaday, whom LFA pastor Bill Coughlin heard give his powerful testimony at a recent Gideons banquet in Salisbury, will share that same testimony at Landis First Assembly on Sunday during the 10:30 a.m. service. Cannaday, who lives in  Winston-Salem, is a member of the Gideons International, but his purpose on Sunday will be to share his testimony. He will have copies of his book “Let Us Reason Together” for sale after the service and a love offering will be received for his expenses.

Smith Chapel Men’s Day 

On Sunday at 3 p.m., Smith Chapel Apostolic Holiness Church in the Amity Hill Community, will be celebrating their annual Men’s Day service. The guest speaker will be Rev. Timothy Bridges, pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Salisbury. Bishop A.W. Brown is the host pastor.

Boxwood Missionary Baptist

Boxwood Missionary Baptist will hold its annual Family & Friends Day on Sunday at the 11 a.m. service. Dinner will follow the service. Pastor is the Rev. Gary S. Wilton.

Summer meals program

Liberty United Methodist Church has partnered with Rowan-Salisbury Schools School Nutrition to provide free lunch to children ages 3 to 18.

Dates of operation are Monday through Friday June 22 through Aug. 13, except Friday, July 3. Meals will be served at the shelter at ball field across the street at noon.

All children must be present to receive a meal when truck at the site.  Time of delivery could be delayed 5 to 10 minutes due to delays at other stops, increased traffic, etc.  For questions contact Meredith Honeycutt at 704-630-6047.

First Presbyterian

First Presbyterian Church, corner of S. Fulton and W. Innes St., will celebrate God’s love of children and youth on Sunday. Gather at 11 a.m. in Lewis Hall for worship and to celebrate the week of Camp Discovery vacation Bible school with songs and pictures. In addition, the TWAM (Teens With A Mission) Costa Rica Mission Trip 2015 participants will be commisioned. This group of youth and adult advisors will be heading to Costa Rica in July to build two houses for two families in need.

After worship in the courtyard will be a hot dog lunch with fixings and drinks. Bring chairs or blankets. In the event of rain, lunch will be in the fellowship hall.

Erwin Temple homecoming

Erwin Temple CME Church will observe its annual homecoming on Sunday. The pastor, Rev. Hannah, will give the morning message and the Men’s choir will sing. Lunch will be served beginning at 1:30 p.m. Afternoon worship will begin at 3 p.m. with guest minister the Rev. Clarence Cox, pastor of St. John CME Church of Winston-Salem.

A three night revival will follow with different guest ministers at 7 p.m. nightly:

God’s Tabernacle Youth Explosion

ROCKWELL — The young adult department of  God’s Tabernacle for Believers will host a Youth Explosion on Sunday at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be Bradley Taylor, senior pastor of Christian Outreach Ministry. Special guests include Trinity Three, Trae, God’s Anointed One, and the GTFB Praise Dancers. God’s Tabernacle for Believers is located at 304 W. Main St. The Rev. Reginald D. Men’s day at Jerusalem Baptist

SPENCER – Jerusalem Baptist Church will celebrate Men’s day on Sunday during the regular 11 a.m. service. The speaker, the Rev. Larry D. Connor Sr., is associate minister at St. Paul Community Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, as well as the Christian education coordinator. A graduate of Livingstone College, the Rev. Connor has a bachelor’s degree in religious studies and psychology.

Special music will be provided by an all male choir composed of the men of Jerusalem and men from local area churches, led by minister of music Keith Holland. The highlight of the program will be the announcing of the 2015 Man of the Year. Jerusalem is located at 1570 N. Long St. Extension. The Rev. Dr. David Bracken is host pastor.

Mount Zion UCC

CHINA GROVE �� During the 10 a.m. summer worship service, Kim Hodges will be the guest worship leader and preacher. Hodges, who is currently serving as a chaplain intern at the UNC Hospital in Durham, returns to her Mount Zion United Church of Christ home where she served as Director of Education and Youth Ministry.

Bring old blue jeans to be used in making shoes for the Sole Hope ministry located in Salisbury, which helps shoe the feet of young and old alike in Uganda. Mt. Zion UCC will be collecting blue jeans through July 26, where they will be cut and pieced together as a part of the VBS program.

In My Father’s House Outreach Ministries

In My Father’s House Outreach Ministries, led by the Rev. Roosevelt Jenkins, continues its series on The Purpose Driven Life, on Thursday, July 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Hurley Room at Rowan Public Library, 201 W. Innes St.

In His Steps 

In His Steps, a local, non-profit dance ministry for girls, offers a free annual summer camps for girls ages prekindergarten through twelfth grade. Participants can choose from one of five summer camp locations or come to them all.

In His Steps, now in its seventh year, also offers weekly dance classes free of charge, along with spiritual development through biblical-based devotions. Dance season runs from September through March. The ministry focuses on giving girls a safe place to learn about Christ, as well as to develop a positive self-image and share the challenges they face on a daily basis in their lives.
