Dr. Bettina Joi Isaac, formerly of Salisbury, completed her residency training in pediatrics at Inova Children’s Hospital in Falls Church, Va., on June 26, 2015.
While completing her training at Inova, she was selected to present her clinical conundrum “An unexpected presentation of astrocytoma” at the Society of Hospital Medicine conference in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. She also worked extensively to improve palliative care services for pediatric oncology patients. Dr. Isaac is humbled to have been voted as both resident of the year by her nurses and resident of the month by her colleagues.
Dr. Isaac is a 2012 graduate of Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tenn., where she obtained her Doctor of Medicine degree. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences and nutrition, with magma cum laude honors, from North Carolina State University in 2006. She studied nursing at the University of Virginia, where she was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She is also a 2002 graduate of North Rowan High School.
Dr. Isaac is furthering her training and will be specializing in pediatric hematology and oncology. She is currently a fellow at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.
Dr. Isaac’s parents are Timothy and Deborah Dixon of Salisbury and William Isaac of Columbia, S.C. She is the granddaughter of the late Bette Jo Lowery of Salisbury and Homer and Shirley Witt of Upper Marlboro, Md.
