The other night after Bible school, I was trying to unlock the door at my house to get in; I tried first one key, then another until finally it opened.

I was in especially deep fellowship with our God, more than usual due to just leaving church. A verse of scripture came into my mind, John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: No man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Just as one of my keys was the only match to my door, Jesus is the only way to God. So I pondered on why I have so many other keys which I have no idea what they unlock.

In 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: Old things are passed away; Behold all things are become new.” Now I started separating my keys in as much as I had my past and present behaviors and/or beliefs when I surrendered my life to Christ. It says in 2 Corinthians 6:9, “As unknown and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed” I checked to see what, if anything, my unknown keys fit, so to speak I chastened (refined) my key ring to include all well known or useful (righteous) keys. Psalm 44:15, “My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face have covered me” This tells of my thoughts on what some of my keys ever were for and that I am regretful of not disposing of them when I no longer needed them. Just as I was being deceived by all these keys, which on the surface looked very similar, Matthew 24:11 tells us, “And many false prophets shall rise and shall deceive many,” and verse 24, “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; In so much that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” This along with Paul’s word stated earlier in 2 Corinthians 5:17, as I found the old (unuseful, unrighteous) keys, I discarded them so only the useful (righteous) ones remained.

Our key rings just as our lives can carry garbage (unuseful things) but through Jesus Christ, the scriptures and promises of God, we can clean it all up, keeping only the good or righteous. Jesus tells us in Matthew 16:19, “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of Heaven…”

The Gospels tell us of Jesus Christ being crucified on a cross so that we can bury our sins (old keys) and be given a new life (righteous and useful). He was then raised on the third day to give us a path to heaven. If you choose to believe this you will be given a key, a wonderful key. This key is described in the beginning of the story; John 14:6, Jesus Christ is the key, the way the everything we need. He is the master key. I hope you’ll take time and clean up your key ring (bury your sins). You’ll find life is a whole lot less confusing.
