Tower of Power

On Saturday, Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Tower of Power United Holy Church, 601 E. Cemetery St., is sponsoring, together with the
local NAACP, a community cookout at the church. There will be food, gospel music by Mr. Cliff Roseboro and band, vendors, NAACP membership drive, voter-registration drive, door prizes, testimonies by ex-offenders, and more. The Rev. Wm. Turner is host pastor.

 

Broken Heart Tour

Area churches to host Sunday school in the park

Three Dixonville area churches will host Sunday School in the Park at Towne Creek Park Sunday morning beginning at 8 a.m.  Fairview Heights Baptist, First Calvary Baptist and Hall’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Churches will partner in sponsoring the program.

The event is being held to extend outreach services to the community. The general public is invited to attend. Activities begin with a continental breakfast from 8 to 8:30 a.m., followed by the lessons. Regular morning services will be held at each church.  The weekend will kick off with a  School Supply Give-a-way Saturday from noon to 2 p.m.  at  First Calvary, 400 S. Long St.

Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Family & Friends Day

Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, 500 Partee St., will celebrate its annual Family & Friends Day on Sunday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Carolyn D. Bratton, pastor, bringing the message. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. service that features special guest the Rev. Dr. Raymon E. Hunt of Moore’s Sanctuary AME Zion Church, Charlotte. He attended Simpson Bible College in San Francisco, Livingstone College and Hood Theological Seminary as well as Shaw University in Raleigh. He was elected the third General Secretary of the Department of Christian Education of the AME Zion Church in July 1992 and retired in 2012.

Messiah Lutheran 73rd homecoming

Messiah Lutheran Church, 701 E. Lafayette St., will observe its 73rd homecoming on Sunday beginning with the 11 a.m. service. There will not be any Sunday school. Piano Recital At New London UMC

NEW LONDON — New London United Methodist Church, 206 S. Main St., will host Dr. David Palmer for a piano recital on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Dr. Palmer is a former professor at Pfeiffer University and Davidson College whose repertoire rages from classical to rock and roll. This concert is part of New London UMC’s Music in Mission Concert Series. There is no admission fee. A love offering will be received to assist the Stepp family in purchasinge a wheelchair and a handicap accessible van for their son as he enters middle school.

CONCORD — A benefit and candlelight vigil in honor of The Charleston 9 will be held at Rock Hill AME Zion Church, 3620 Rock Hill Church Road, on Aug. 29 beginning at 6 p.m. There will be praise, worship, praise dancing as well as a mass choir.

SPENCER — The Church of the Word of God, 1380 Hollywood Drive, celebrates the 19th pastoral anniversary of Bishop Willie James Heilig. The celebration will start with a four day revival that runs Aug. 19, 20 and 21 at 7 p.m., and concludes on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 3 p.m.

 

A Women’s Day celebration and luncheon

The Women of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Shirley Ave., will host a Women’s Day Celebration and Luncheon: “The Total Woman: Equipping the Mind, Body, and Spirit for Ministry” on Saturday, Aug. 22 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Workshops for all ages will be presented by Linda Beaty, Tammy Ford, Alyssa Gilmore, Amber Gilmore and Sue Patton.  Lenore Bronson is the luncheon speaker. There will be giveaways and activities. Come with plenty of “hat” attitude. All ladies are asked to wear hats.

On Sunday, Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. is Women’s Day with speaker the Rev. Tajuan Kyles of Creative Expression Ministry, and music by The Sanctified Sisters of Mount Zion.

 

Guiding Light Women’s Auxiliary banquet

EAST SPENCER — The Guiding Light Missionary Baptist Association Women’s Auxiliary will host a banquet on Saturday, Aug. 22 at 4 p.m. at the Guiding Light Missionary Baptist Association Convention Center, 308 Boundary St.
