Area Sports Briefs: Randolph stays in winner’s bracket; Houston shines

Host team Randolph County Post 45 won again in the Southeast Regional American Legion baseball tournament, beating the Alabama champions 5-4 late Thursday night.
Randolph and South Carolina champion Chapin-Newberry (25-0) are the two teams still unbeaten in the double-elimination event that will determine a World Series participant.
Randolph plays the S.C. champs tonight at 7 p.m. at McCrary Park.
Kirby Lambert drove in three runs for Randolph (27-15), as the hosts overcame a 4-0 deficit.
Florida 8, W. Virginia 3
Preston Kolke had three hits and scored four runs and Richard Ruth had two hits and three RBIs for Florida.
West Virginia was eliminated. Florida (34-8) plays in today’s 4 p.m. elimination game against Alabama (39-11).
Tennessee 18, Georgia 6
Konnor Ambrose and Jonathon Davis had four hits each as Tennessee stayed alive and knocked out Georgia by the 10-run rule.
Shut out on Wednesday by Randolph, Tennessee pounded out 19 hits.
Tennessee (32-10) plays Rowan County (31-7) in a 1 p.m. elimination game today.
Intimidators
Kannapolis pulled out a 2-1 win Thursay at Greensboro in a game shortened to six innings by rain.
Spencer Adams (8-5) pitched a complete game, the first of his career. He retired the final 12 batters he faced.
Greensboro’s Mason Davis appeared to hit a three-run home run over the right-field foul pole but the initial call was overturned after Kannapolis manager Tommy Thompson argued.
Touted prospect Tyler Kolek (4-9) struck out nine for Greensboro.
The Intimidators continue the four-game series in Greensboro tonight.
Local golf
In the eGolf Tour’s River Hills Classic, Salisbury’s Frank Adams III shot a second-round 69. He’s 3-under and tied for 13th.
Youth track and field
The Hurley YMCA Warriors Track and Field team is competing this week in the AAU Junior Olympic National Championships at Norfolk, Va.
