GQ Class of 1954

The 1945 class of granite Quarry High School met on Saturday, Aug. 8 at China Grove Family House Restaurant for lumch to celebrate 70 years since graduation. Greetings were extended and the blessing was offered by Rosalie T. Adams.

After enjoying a delicious meal, the class roster was updated and members were encouraged to use the updated list that contains birth dates, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses to stay in touch with each other.

Peggy Roseman and her daughter conducted a moving memorial service for the 25 deceased members.

Class members introduced their guests and in turn the guests graciously shared interesting facts and stories about their  hosts. Guests included spouses, children, in-laws, a friend, a nephew and a niece. Their stories and comments made the classmates appear to be “doing very well for our age” (the 87-year-old range).

In 1945 we had 47 proud graduates. Today, 25 of us are deceased and 22 of us are “doing ver well for our age.” 13 of the 22 were able to attend the reunion.

The 26 attending included the following 13 classmates and their guests: Virginia Lingle Kluttz, Helen Barger Rogers, Vonnie Agner, Norman Holshouser, Joe Lyerly, Jim Staton, Mary Frances Starnes Lesley and Rosalie Adams from Rowan County; Pearl Fisher Lieurance of Rutherfordton, Betty Kluttz Miller of Hickory, Lawrence Fink of Kannapolis, Frankie Poole Bost of Charlotte and Peggy Lyerly Roseman of Richfield.

After several hours of sharing good memories, good fellowship and good food, the meeting was adjourned by Rosalie Adams so that we could all go home and take our naps.

 

GQ Class of 1952

The Granite Quarry class of 1952 celebrated 63 years at Ryan’s on August 15. Classmate Rev. Donald Deal had the invocation. Pansy Poplin led the discussion about classmates who have been heard from and those who  have died in the past  year. Several classmates told funny stories about their days at GQ. Rev. Deal shared humorous readings with the group.  Ruth Beaver’s daughter Bonnie made pictures.

Those attending were Bill and Pansy Poplin, Rev. Donald and Nancy Deal, Benny and J.J. Frick, Ruth Beaver and daughter Bonnie, Sylvia Euart and daughter Jamie, Sarah Jo Teague, Bonnie Chandgie, Buddy and Sylvia Barger and former teachers Jean McCombs and Doris Ritchie.

The class will meet again next year, Good Lord willing.

KANNAPOLIS — The Kneeling Gardeners Club met for its October meeting to hear a presentation by Steve Christy about pruning trees and shrubs.

The group meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at Trinity United Methodist Church.  For the November meeting, Angie Graeber will share information about Winder seedlings, with tips about starting plants from seed.
