THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A
* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR…SOUTHEASTERN ROWAN COUNTY
* UNTIL 845 PM EDT
* AT 449 PM EDT…DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A THUNDERSTORM PRODUCING
HEAVY RAIN ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. UP TO TWO INCHES OF RAIN HAVE
FALLEN SINCE 345 PM. FLASH FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN SHORTLY.
ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF TWO TO THREE INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN
THE WARNED AREA.
HEAVY RAIN WILL CAUSE RAPID RISES ON LOCAL CREEKS
SUCH AS DUTCH BUFFALO CREEK..SECOND CREEK AND ITS TRIBUTARIES.
FLOODING OF LOW LYING AREAS NEAR CREEKS WILL BE LIKELY…ESPECIALLY
ON OLD BEATTY FORD…SAINT PETER CHURCH…KING AND OLD CONCORD
ROADS.
FLOODING ALONG HIGHWAY 73 NEAR STRICKER BRANCH AND ON ROADS IN
BEVERLY HILLS PARK ESPECIALLY ALONG MIRMAR STREET NE WILL BE LIKELY.
ALSO…FLOODING OF ROADS NEAR CALDWELL PARK…ESPECIALLY ALONG
MELROSE DRIVE…MANOR AVENUE NEAR 601…WILSHIRE AVE AT JOURNEY
ST…AND FLOODING ALONG HONEYCUTT DRIVE AND ALONG COLD WATER CREEK
WILL BE LIKELY.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS…HIGHWAYS AND UNDERPASSES. ADDITIONALLY…
COUNTRY ROADS AND FARMLANDS ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS…STREAMS AND
OTHER LOW LYING AREAS ARE SUBJECT TO FLOODING.
MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN VEHICLES. DO NOT DRIVE INTO AREAS WHERE
WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. ONLY A FEW INCHES OF RAPIDLY FLOWING WATER
CAN CARRY AWAY YOUR VEHICLE. TURN AROUND…DONT DROWN.
