Salisbury City Council approved an incentives package Tuesday for New Sarum brewery’s expansion.
City Council voted 5-0 Tuesday to give the brewery $50,000 to help pay for the cost of renovating the Tractor Building. The package also includes a $1,000 option for the brewery to buy a piece of city-owned land next to its new building. The owners need to expand the building to 7,500 square feet, according to an economic analysis on the expansion presented to Council.
New Sarum brewery’s owners plan to move to the Tractor Building downtown next to the Gateway Building on North Lee Street. The owners, which currently lease a small space on South Lee Street next to Salty Caper, want to start a microbrewery and begin bottling their beer.
New Sarum brewery is owned by the Moscardini family and Andy Maben, who is the brewmaster.
The expansion is expected to create 10 jobs and provide $14,300 in annual tax revenue.
Councilman Brian miller said it’s a “Wonderful Investment,” and it’s been “a long time coming to have this building redeveloped.”
Monday, Rowan County Commissioners approved ten years of grant assistance at a rate of 40 percent of the real and personal property tax revenue for the brewery’s expansion. The county would provide an incentive grant of approximately $5,720 and retain $8,580, according to the analysis.
