Appreciation service for Elder Krider today
A musical appreciation service will be held for Elder Norzely Krider this evening at 7:30 p.m. at Ambassador Christian Church, 726 Lincolnton Road.
Christiana installs new youth director
Brittney Barnhardt will be installed as the new youth director of Christiana Lutheran Church during the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday. Barnhardt will lead Christiana’s youth program under the name Thrive Youth Ministry. This will include a number of programs.
THRIVE@5 is the youth group meeting on second and fourth Sundays. Thrive Tutoring is the new outreach program involving free Wi-Fi and tutoring to students of the area elementary, middle and high schools. Tutoring takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6:30 p.m.
Barnhardt’s position is currently part time, as her full-time job is teaching social studies at China Grove Middle School. She is a resident of China Grove and a graduate of South Rowan High School, Catawba College, UNCC and The University of Phoenix. She served as the youth director for Providence House in Concord before beginning her teaching career.
Christiana Lutheran is located on Highway 52, diagonally across from Erwin Middle School and East Rowan High School. The Rev. Carl Haynes is pastor.
Maranatha Bible Church kicks off kids’ prgram
Maranatha Bible Church, 2320 Statesville Boulevard, is kicking off its Fall program for children and teens, grades 1 through 12. Good News Club begins Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m. with a light meal, games, music and Bible study. For more information, call 704-637-1995.

The Bruce and Ellis family reunion is today at Kelsey Scott Park and the Sunday worship service is Sunday at 11 a.m. at Hall’s Temple church, N. Long St., Salisbury. The Sunday dinner and meeting follow at Kelsey Scott Park at 1:30 p.m.
White Rock AME Zion
GRANITE QUARRY — White Rock AME Zion Church, 785 White Rock Ave., will celebrate its annual homecoming on Sunday. The 11 a.m. speaker will be White Rock’s pastor, the Rev. Thomas D. Lee. An old fashioned covered dish lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m.

Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1570 N. Long St. Extension, will celebrate homecoming and revival.
Revival services are Wednesday through Friday, Sept. 2-4 at 7 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Serenus T. Churn Sr. will be the evangelist all three nights. Dr. Churn is originally from Camden, N.J. and currently the pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Winston-Salem. A published author, Rev. Churn has a B.S. degree from Morgan State University of Baltimore, Md., a master’s degree from Howard University of Washington, D.C. and a doctorate degree from Drew university, Madison, NJ.
Homecoming will be celebrated Sunday during the regular 11 a.m. service with speaker the Rev. Wallace Powell, associate minister of Galilee Baptist Church of Winston-Salem. Music will be rendered by the combined choirs of Jerusalem under the direction of Keith Holland, minister of music. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Dr. David Bracken is host pastor.
Mt. Mitchell’s 150th anniversary events
KANNAPOLIS — Organized in 1865, Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church has been celebrating its 150thanniversary this year with recognitions and historic remembrances. The church is located on the corner of Lane Street and Old Salisbury-Concord Road.
The celebration will now focus on four Sunday morning services in September featuring four former organists who will return to share their talents: Charlotte Penland on Sept. 6, Roger Laney on Sept. 13, Brandon Cook on Sept. 20, and Don Simmons on Sept. 26. These celebrations are open to the community.

LINWOOD — Old Smith Grove will be having its annual homecoming revival beginning Sunday at 3 p.m. guest speaker will be the Rev. Darryl Scott Jr. of Union Chapel AME Zion of Churchland.
Guest speaker from Monday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. will be Bishop John C. Parks of Winston-Salem. Sunday morning speaker will be host pastor the Rev. James Ledbetter III.

The free Christian dance classes for girls offered by In His Steps now have a location in Salisbury at Salisbury Christian Fellowship, 210 W. Ritchie Road.
