Forty employers will be looking for workers to fill more than 300 positions during a Community Job Fair to be held Tuesday at the Salisbury Civic Center.
“We are planning to have some great employers there offering a wide variety of positions,” said Debbie Davis, manager of the NCWorks Career Center in Rowan County.
NCWorks is one of several agencies involved in planning the job fair. The agencies sponsored an employment workshop recently to prepare job hunters to make the most of the job fair.
Tuesday’s event will have two parts.
“We will have a panel of employers to answer questions from 10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m.,” Davis said in an email to the Post. ” This would be a rare opportunity to gain additional information about companies and what they offer.”
The job fair itself will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Davis said the employers have a lot to offer.
Noranda, she said, offers competitive pay and benefits, which include medical, dental, vision and prescription health insurance; life insurance for employee, spouse and child; retiree life insurance; sickness and accident coverage; flex spending accounts; 401k with company match; a company-funded pension plan; employee stock purchase plan; vacation; nine paid holidays and more.
Daimler Freightliner will be trying to fill jobs that have a starting pay of $14.58 per hour and step progression over 48 months to a top rate of $18.50 per hour, Davis said. The company also offers benefits including medical, dental, life insurance, vacation, pension and 401k savings plan with company matching contributions.
Another company is offering $10 to $12.50 per hour, depending on experience. Benefits there include medical, dental, vision, vacation, tuition assistance, 401k and a uniform allowance.
“As you can see, the Community Job Fair will offer great opportunities for the public to meet and discuss quality job openings with some wonderful employers,” Davis said.
The city of Salisbury is offering free transportation to the Civic Center through the city transit system. The Civic Center is at 315 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.
The Community Job Fair is hosted by Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, The City of Salisbury, Salisbury Parks and Recreation, and the NCWorks Career Center – Rowan.
