Spencer’s current take-home police vehicle policy states that officers who live in the town or within 5 miles of the town limits may take their vehicles home with no charge for commuting mileage. Officers who live more than 5 miles from the town limits may take their vehicles home but will be charged the IRS mileage rate for all mileage over the initial 5 miles.
The amended policy approved Tuesday states that officers who live in the town or within 15 miles from the police department may take their vehicles home with no charge for commuting mileage. Officers who live in excess of 15 miles from the police department may take their vehicles home but will be charged the NC Motor Vehicle Fleet Rate for all mileage over the initial 15 miles.
The next Spencer Board of Aldermen meeting will be held 7 p.m. Oct. 13.
