A Statesville man charged in August with 69 counts of first-degree sexual offense with a child has now been charged with additional counts as a new victim has come forward, authorities say.

Michael Thomas Chambers, 65, of Turnersburg Highway, Statesville, now face 106 counts of first-degree sexual offense with a child.

He was first arrested Aug. 26 and placed under a $1 million bond. In that instance, Chambers was accused of assaulting a family member for six years, 2009 to 2015. The child was younger than 12, according to reports from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

At the time, the victim was interviewed at the Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center. Others associated with the case were also interviewed.

On Sept. 2, a new report was filed by another person allegedly sexually assaulted by Chambers. This child was under the age of 10. The abuse occurred between 1980 and 1983, the report said.

After more interviews by Detective Sgt. J. Lowrance of the Special Victim’s Unit, 37 additional charges of first-degree sexual offense with a child were filed. Chambers was arrested Sept. 14 and given another bond of $1 million.
