A Rockwell man faces charges of drug trafficking after deputies found evidence of heroin in his vehicle during a traffic stop Monday, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies reported that they pulled Brandon Scott Goins, 25, over during a routine traffic stop at the 1600 block of Peeler Road on Monday night. According to the report, the officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and asked Goins and his passenger to step out of the car.

When asked if there were any illegal substances in the car, Goins responded that there weren’t. Deputies searched the car where they reported finding two spoons under the driver’s seat coated in a powder residue that appeared to be heroin, and a capped syringe.

When questioned about the items, Goins allegedly said that the spoons had been used to eat noodles and the residue was from the flavor packet, and that his grandmother was diabetic and the syringe was for her.

Deputies also found a half-smoked marijuana cigarette and a bottle of mixed pills, which Goins insisted did not belong to him.

According to the Sheriff’s Office report, Goins admitted after some questioning that the drug paraphernalia was his and that he had snorted one of the pills, which proved to be Percocet, with a straw deputies found in his pocket.

Goins is currently being held under a $50,000 secured bond and faces charges of trafficking heroin or opium; possession with intent to make, sell, or distribute a controlled substance; possession of a controlled substance; and driving with a revoked license.

Goins has previously been arrested in Rowan County on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession by purchasing.

• Deputies responded Monday to a call about a counterfeit $20 bill being used at the BP Gas Stations at the 1100 block of Long Ferry Road.
• Two 18-year-olds, Jordan Isaiah Butler and Malik Shemar Ross, were arrested Monday at I-85 exit 79 on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture.
• James Leonard Moose, 31, was arrested Monday at the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office on West Liberty Street on charges of possession of a controlled substance.

• A man reported that a vehicle was stolen from the 1200 block of Standish Street on Tuesday.
• A woman at the 1000 block of Freeland Drive reported a credit card fraud, Tuesday.
• Police seized marijuana during a traffic stop at the 700 block of West Monroe Street, Tuesday.
• A motor vehicle was damaged and items from it reported stolen on Tuesday at the 000 block of Knox Street.
• Marshall’s on Faith Road reported a fraud on Tuesday.
• Cory Jack Heffner, 21, was arrested Monday on charges of possession of a controlled substance at the 1300 block of Longview Avenue.
• Patricia Gabrielle Sipes, 20, was arrested on charges of larceny Monday at the 1300 block of Klumac Road.
• Justin Eugene Bell, 24, was arrested on charges of Larceny (felony) on Tuesday at the 100 block of West Liberty Street.
• Hez-kemerium Ke-trein Krider, 35, was arrested on charges of assault of a female on Tuesday at the intersection of East 11^th Street and North Long Street.
• Jessie Payne Purvis, 38, was arrested Tuesday after she tried to return items she had not purchased at Marshall’s in exchange for a gift card, according to police report. She was charged with obtaining property by false pretenses.
