Organizers of the Rowan County Christmas Bureau have set dates to take applications from families requesting holiday help.

The Christmas Bureau takes applications for several programs that help provide gifts for children 12 and under: the Salvation Army Angel Tree, the Salisbury Post Christmas Happiness Fund, Toys for Tots, Operation Santa and Project Santa.

Applications will be taken at the Hurley YMCA on these dates:

• Friday, Nov. 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Saturday, Nov. 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Saturday,Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Through the bureau, coordinated by the Rowan County United Way, volunteers take applications for toys, food, clothing or vouchers. The items are distributed at a later date.

Jeanie Moore, leader of the Christmas Bureau, says the joint effort has worked well.

“The Christmas Bureau collaboration allows our helping agencies to reach more individuals and families during our giving season,” Moore says. ” We have a wonderful group of volunteers who help us match needs with resources.”

The bureau was revived in 2013, and Moore says each year those involved try to improve the process and community outreach.
