Salisbury Police have identified the victims of a Tuesday two-vehicle collision on Jake Alexander Boulevard and Ivy Street, one of whom was a Davie High School social studies teacher.

Authorities said a burgundy Honda Accord, with four women inside, was struck from behind by a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup, which was traveling on Jake Alexander Boulevard from Morlan Park Road. 

Hattie Smith McCulloh, 93, of Advance, and Vivian “Lynn” McCulloh Tutterow, 57, of Mocksville, were passengers in the Honda’s back seat and were killed. A front passenger, Vivian Leona McCulloh, 82, of Advance, was seriously injured and taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where she is in stable condition.

The driver of the Honda, Pamela McCulloh Crump, 61, of Greensboro, was later taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. The driver of the truck, Brian Keith Hall, 32, of Salisbury, was not injured. Both Crump and Hall were seen walking around shortly after the crash.

The women were all related, said Police Capt. Shelia Lingle, but it is still not clear how they were related.

According to its website, Tutterow, who went by Lynn, had been teaching for 22 years and was a graduate of Davie High.

“Mrs. Tutterow was a thoughtful, creative, reflective and highly professional Social Studies teacher. She constantly sought professional improvement wanting to bring innovative strategies to her students,” a statement on the school’s website said.

Tutterow was a “pioneer” for the STEM initiative, was chosen to be a part of the Governor’s Teaching Network and was selected as one of two teachers in the state as the recipient of the James Madison Scholarship. 

The school said in the statement Tutterow was an advocate for such causes as domestic violence and the Holocaust. She helped raise over $13,000 for the Change the World Fund through a club, which she sponsored.

The school system has seen that grief counselors and ministers are available for the staff and students throughout today.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and the families of others involved in the accident,” the statement said.

Officials have said there was no indication of impairment or excessive speed involved.

Lingle said officers are continuing to investigate how the crash occurred with a wreck reconstruction report and interviews with those involved. Police have released no other details.
