East Rowan’s Nick Lyerly won the Tarheel Youth Golf Association state championship at Keith Hills in Buies Creek.
The tournament was shortened to one round after rain on Saturday. Lyerly shot 72 on Sunday.
Lyerly is ranked No. 1 among N.C. junior golfers.
He won by Sunday by one shot over Eric Bae of Pinehurst and Nathan Hawkins of Lexington.
Bae finished with a birdie and an eagle, but Lyerly made a 4-foot par on No. 18 to hold on.
Cannon School’s Michael Childress shot 79 and tied for 19th.

Kevin Lentz shot 64-72 — 136 and won the McCanless Club Championship that was contested on Oct. 4 and 11.
Alex Safrit shot 74-69 — 143 and took second place.
Cameron Spencer shot 73-70 — 143.
Terrol Kendall made a rare hole-in-one on a par-4 on Sunday and it helped him win the Senior Division.
Kendall aced the 290-yard No. 8 hole.
Kendall shot 78-73 — 151. Lee Ketner shot 78-78 — 156 for second place.
In the First Flight, Evan Neas won with 79-71 — 150. Jarred Hinson shot 77-74 — 151 for second place.
Troy Neas won the Second Flight, shooting 87-77 — 164. Rick Adams took second with 87-82 —169.
Kristi Laton won the Ladies Division, shooting 72-76 — 148. Azalee Story placed second with 81-84 — 165.
In the Ladies First Flight, Robin Leslie won with 94-92 — 186. Tammie Drew shot 97-94 — 191 for second.

College soccer
The No. 2 Pfeiffer men’s soccer team (11-0, 5-0 CC) broke a 21-year-old record for most consecutive victories in a season with a 5-0 blanking of Belmont Abbey (1-8-1, 0-4-1).
Nathan Regis scored his 14th and 15th goals of the season as the Falcons surpassed the 1994 mark of 10 consecutive wins.
The Falcons made a strong case for the No. 1 ranking in Division II with a dominating week. The NSCAA poll will be announced Tuesday afternoon.

College football
South Carolina State Javon Hargrave (North Rowan) made seven tackles in a 17-14 loss to Bethune-Cookman on Thursday.

In Charleston’s 43-37 win against West Liberty on Saturday, John Knox (Salisbury) had three tackles and a pass breakup for Charleston.
Quentin Sifford (West Rowan) made six tackles for West Liberty.
