Miss Fashionetta Pageant highlights young ladies in the community

Five young ladies from the local community were “Pretty in Pink” and other lovely apparel at the 2015 Miss Fashionetta Pageant held last weekend at Forrest Park School in Kannapolis.

Talent, glamour, poetry, symphony, and flashing cameras crowned the evening as the lovely girls took center stage. The participants were Miss Ryan Delaney Simmons, daughter of Ryan and Tannisha Simmons (Harrisburg Elementary School); Miss Daylan Kiersten Dawkins, daughter of Brian and Brandi Dawkins (Hickory Ridge Middle School); Miss Kennedy Soles,daughter of Steven and Daniele Soles (Rocky River Elementary School); Miss Zayonna Alexandrya Wall, daughter of Cynthia Wall (KIPP School of Charlotte); and Miss Tajay Brown, daughter of Dennis Brown and Anne Marie Holden                                                                 (Concord Middle School).

The highlight of the event was the crowning of Miss Fashionetta 2015 – Miss Zayonna Alexandrya Wall who was the first- place contestant/winner in the fund-raising component of the pageant activities which started in the spring. The first runner-up contestant was Miss Tajay Brown. Prior to this finale, the contestants–with the help of family and friends—engaged in raising money targeted to creating a scholarship fund for worthy college bound youth in Cabarrus County and vicinity.

Over a period of several months, the young ladies also enjoyed fun and social activities such as picnics, movies, sleep-overs and dining out. Educational, personal growth, and cultural enrichment programs were also included in their program. The group assisted the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority of Concord in hosting a community Health Fair at Barber Scotia College during the summer. Another program highlight was the Mother-Daughter Tea held last month. The theme of this program focused on the importance of developing self-pride and high self-esteem as aspiring young black females.

During the event the participants showcased the latest teen fashions in dress, school and sports attire, as cameras flashed. The young “fashionettas” not only shared the fun and glamour of being “in the eye of the camera” but also gained an early and invaluable opportunity to develop personal integrity and learn to excel to their highest potential.

 

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. of Concord sponsors of the Miss Fashionetta Pageant, advocates mentoring and helping outstanding young students who want to pursue higher education. This, along with promoting and strengthening the black family, is one of the major goals of this international organization of educated minority women. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. originated at Howard University in Washington, DC in 1908. It is the oldest Greek -letter organization in the United States.
