There is help for people who build up walls

A baby pushed aside with no love, which becomes a shadow on a wall. No trust or belonging to anyone, she grew up a scared little kid.

So the bricks grew higher and higher and no one could get inside.

No stability, an unstable life. She bounced around from place to place. Not knowing who she is, she grew more fearful and developed a lot of rage.

No positive reinforcements, she stuck her neck out and earned her GED in Liberal Arts, but was still stuck inside the wall, the search for herself, over the years, continued.

Children, hanging on her apron strings, as they grew, they pushed her out to face the wall she had build so high. She started to learn, to grow through the Carter House, Civitan, and NAMI.

She still has her wall, but now she can step over the wall and let people in.

She is finding herself, yet still walking, a never ending journey, on the road, of mental illness, to healing and the light, becoming the person she is meant to be.

Other people’s money

I was amused at the article on Mayor Hinnant on Oct 8. He was right to say something needed to be done to get business downtown Kannapolis, but not everyone agrees with the overspending on this project. It doesn’t take guts to spend someone else’s money, just your own. The worst that can happen is he is voted out.

He states that there was nary a peep, he must not eat at the same restaurants and talk to the same people I do. I wrote to the Post 7-28-14 and received phone calls for 2 weeks thanking me for standing up and saying something about all these tax increases and city spending.

He speaks of Salisbury arguing about the school central office, at least they used some constraint with their costs, furnishing and building the dome. How much did our dome cost?

The first cost of our project was around $5.7 million if I remember until they kept adding more property. Some had been on the market for a long time, but it was a deal for us. Then he doesn’t mention the millions it will cost to upfit these deteriorating buildings.

Mr. Murdock does not do anything that is not in his best interest, but you act like he done us a favor. He is probably still laughing!

Well on to the next great idea — shoving the ball park down our throat.

Butner is loyal

On behalf of a number of citizens of Salisbury and Rowan County, I feel I would be remiss if we did not voice our concern and support for Mr. Mac Butner, member of the Rowan County Board of Elections.

We have known Mr. Butner for most of our lives. We have always found him to be a man of very high character and integrity. In our opinion, one of Mr. Butner’s greatest strengths is that he is honest and ethical in his service to Rowan County. Mr. Butner also tells the truth and is willing to speak his mind and not hide behind political correctness.

Please, let’s not crucify Mac Butner, but celebrate the fact that we have a loyal, honest and dedicated person who is willing to serve all the citizens of Rowan County.

Endorsement letters

The deadline for letters endorsing candidates in the Nov. 3 election is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28. Letters must be received by the Post by then to be published before the election.
