Faith’s Board of Aldermen unanimously approved a $29,262.20 contract for new digital communication system for its water and sewer systems.

The SCADA, or supervisory control and data acquisition, system will collect and analyzes real time data from the town’s lift stations and send out alerts if something malfunctions

Alderman Dr. Matt Lyerly compared the switch to upgrading a cell phone from analog to digital.

“It’s very much an upgrade,” said Mayor Todd Peeler, adding that the old system was, “just obsolete.”

The sewer portion of the project comes to a total of $13,212, while the water control portion is $1650.20. According to Town Clerk Kathy Fink, both totals were within the expected price range.

The approved proposal is $130 higher than the last quote, but also includes rain gauges.

The water project will come directly out of the town’s water fund. The sewer project, however, will be partially funded through the sewer budget and partially funded through water funds as well.

According to Fink, because both projects fall under the enterprise category, they money can be transferred.

ClearWater, Inc. out of Hickory is the company overseeing the execution of the contract.
