Carson’s senior cross county and track standout Zachary Marchinko has committed to the Charlotte 49ers.
County cross county champion and SPC Runner of the Year, Marchinko was second in last year’s 3A state cross country meet.

West Rowan junior Austin Love, a pitcher/infielder, has committed to UNC.
Love was 5-2 on the mound for the Falcons as a sophomore. He had two saves and an ERA of 2.39.
Love plays showcase ball in the summer and fall for the South Charlotte Panthers.
Prep soccer
Salisbury’s match at Lexington scheduled for Wednesday was postponed to Friday at 5 p.m.
SHS Senior Night
Salisbury will recognnize all senior athletes from all fall sports at Friday’s football game.
Football players will be recognized before the game and athletes in other sports at halftime.
Prep tennis
Championships in singles and doubles in four different classifications will be decided as the NCHSAA holds its annual women’s tennis tournament championships at three different sites.
Semifinalists in singles and doubles at the regional level qualified for the state championships.
The 4A championships are scheduled for the Millbrook Exchange Park in Raleigh, while the 3A event will be held at the Burlington Parks and Recreation Tennis Center. The 2A and A championships are both set for the Cary Tennis Center.
Action starts Friday morning with the opening round of play at 9 a.m. Two rounds will be played on Friday, with the semifinals Saturday morning and the championship matches on Saturday afternoon.
In 3A, Sarah Jiang of Cox Mill, the singles runner-up for the past two years, is back in the championship draw for the fourth straight year.
Salisbury has two singles players and a doubles team in the 2A championship draw, while Lake Norman Charter placed two singles players and two doubles teams into the 2A championships.

Register by Oct. 31 for Little Shooters Basketball (Pre-K and first grades) and girls basketball (grades 2-8).
Registration starts Oct. 31 for boys basketball (grades 2-8).

Youth soccer
The FCCA U12 soccer team, the Green Dragons won two regional matches by scores of 6-2 and 5-4.
Maddox Goodnight scored 3 goals in each match. Also scoring for the Dragons (6-0-0) were Reed Brixey with two goals, and Luis Avilez, Colin Donaldson and Christopher Portillo with one each.
Ben Childress and Ben Sweet were outstanding for the Dragons.
Local golf
Fifty-six GARS members played in foursomes at Warrior.
Low ‘A’ Flight player was Dale Cobb with a net of 63.17.
Low ‘B’ Flight player was John Goodman with a net of 64.43. Low ‘C’ Flight player was Windsor Eagle with a net of 65.69.
Low ‘D’ Flight player was Doug Lingle with a net of 62.11.
