SALISBURY — On the day after Tuesday’s municipal election, Salisbury City Council will face a short meeting agenda.

Council moved its regular first Tuesday meeting date to 4 p.m. Wednesday because of today’s election, which features 16 council candidates, including three incumbents.

Council meets at City Hall, 217 S. Main St. Meetings are streamed live at www.salisburync.gov/webcast.

A new council won’t be sworn into office until Dec. 1. After Wednesday’s meeting, the present council of Mayor Paul Woodson, Mayor Pro Tem Maggie Blackwell, Councilwoman Karen Alexander and councilmen William “Pete” Kennedy and Brian Miller will have one more meeting Nov. 17 until making way for the new council in December.

Council will consider the issuance of a special-use permit for the operation of a child daycare center in a residence at 433 Willow Road.

In connection to the permit, council will hold a public hearing, which is a continuation of an evidentiary hearing from the Sept. 15 council meeting.

Council had requested that the applicant, Lamont Savage, return with an expert witness to address how property values might be affected by the in-home business.

The “child care center in residence” is a new definition within the Land Development Ordinance. It permits up to 15 children in a residential setting and must follow provisions set out by the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services.

A minimum of 100 square feet of heated space per child is required. Savage has 1,971 square feet available.

In other agenda items Wednesday, council:

• Will receive a request for the voluntary annexation of 18.42 acres, known as Corbin Acres Phase 2.

• Will consider temporary road closures on Main Street for two November parades. For Veterans Day Nov. 11. Main Street between Liberty and Harrison streets will be closed from 2:15-4 p.m.

For the Holiday Caravan Nov. 26, Main Street between Lafayette and Thomas streets will be closed from 2-6 pm.

• Will be introduced to International City/County Management Association Fellows who have been visiting Salisbury.
