Cross country state championships were conducted at Kernersville’s Redmon Park on Saturday.
Carson’s boys finished ninth in the 3A Championships.
Carson competed without its top runner Zachary Marchinko, who has been ill all week.
Garrett Ingold (41st, 17:45), Dylan Koontz (46th, 17:49), Nick Cox (18:07), Grant Doby (18:24), Jonah Evans (18:35), Harrison Doby (19:45) and Trace Bigelow (21:03) competed for the Cougars.
Weddington won the championship.

Salisbury’s boys were 15th in the 2A Championships.
Matt Washko (68th, 19:02) led the Hornets.
Also competing were Alex Yang (19:23), Dillon Keegan (19:52), Reilly Gokey (19:52), Roarke Brown (20:16), Sam McNeely (20:54) and John Yang (21:22).

Led by Maggie Foley (12th, 21:18), Cassie Bebout, Annie Habeeb, Kelsey Kiser and Madison Hale, Gray Stone won the 1A girls championship.

Carson’s Taylor Wiggins competed as an individual in the 3A girls race. She ran 22:00 and finished 66th.

Competing as an individual in the 4A boys race, Davie’s Nick Simmons was 67th in 17:29.

Prep volleyball
1A
Senior middle hitter Jade Shepherd led Alleghany to a four-set victory over defending champion Princeton on Saturday.
2A
It went down to the fifth and decisive set in the final match of the night, and South Granville outlasted Wheatmore to win the state title on Saturday.
3A
Senior outside hitter Julia Scoles led South Iredell to a convincing sweep past Asheboro in the state championship on Saturday at the Raleigh Convention Center.
The Vikings, in the state volleyball championships for the first time, won by 25-14, 25-11 and 25-9.
The 6-1 Scoles, who will continue her volleyball career at UNC, was a unanimous choice for the Most Valuable Player award, with 23 kills in 32 attempts and no errors.
Madison Peters added 11 kills for the winners while Taylor Berg came up with 19 digs.
4A
Cardinal Gibbons kept a long state title streak intact on Saturday afternoon in the state championships.
Gibbons swept past Northwest Guilford for the title in three straight sets by 25-18, 25-15 and 25-17. The Crusaders became the first NCHSAA team to win seven volleyball championships in a row, now across three classifications.
