Monday was another wet fall day in Rowan County with some significant rain totals for the area. The sometimes heavy precipitation has encouraged leaves to drop from the trees.

Darryl Corriher’s rain gauge held between 1 and 2 inches of rain on Monday morning.

A couple of sugar maple leaves were seen floating in a temporary pond in a parking lot in Salisbury, as the rain beats the surface of the water, causing multiple splash rings.

Earlier this year, Rowan was in the midst of a drought that sharply dropped crop yields for most farmers. Now, it seems Rowan is getting repeatedly pounded by precipitation.

The largest, single-day rainfall totals on Monday appeared to be in southwestern Rowan. During the past week alone, some areas of Rowan have received 3 total inches or more of rain.

Sunny, cool weather is projected through much of the week with cloudy and rainy weather coming back early next week.
