The CIAA released all-league first, second and honorable mention teams on Thursday.
Drew Powell (Livingstone), Austin Jacques (Johnson C. Smith) and Nick Hahula (Chowan) highlight the teams as players of the year.
Powell, a senior quarterback from Upper Marlboro, Md., was named CIAA Offensive Player of the Year. He finished with 1,786 passing yards, a completion percentage of 58.9, and 14 touchdowns.
Powell rushed 139 times for 561 yards and eight touchdowns.
Johnson C. Smith’s Austin Jacques, a senior linebacker from Springdale, Maryland, was named Defensive Player of the Year. Jacques led the conference with 131 tackles.
Chowan’s Nick Hahula, a senior kicker from Rocky Mount, was named CIAA Special Teams Player of the Year. He kicked six field goals and 25 PATs.
Players of the Year and first tem All-CIAA honorees will receive their awards during a ceremony prior to the start of the CIAA Football Championship game at Durham County Memorial Stadium Kickoff is 2 p.m.
Leo Manzo, the CIAA’s leading punter, was named to the first team. Manzo averaged 40 yards per punt.
Offensive lineman Ekanem Ekanem and receiverJalen Hendricks were named tot he second team.
Named Honorable Mention was junior linebacker DeMarcus Nolan.

Robby Barnes (East Rowan) recently completed his soccer career at Greensboro College.
Barnes started 36 games in two years at Spartanburg Methodist College before transferring to Greensboro.
He started 39 games in his two seasons at Greensboro. As a senior, he accumulated 1,023 minutes. He scored six goals and had six assists.
He had four game-winning goals and was voted first team All-USA South.

Prep signings
Carson cross country and track standout Zachary Marchinko signed with the Charlotte 49ers on Thursday.

Both will sign with Catawba.

NHL
RALEIGH — Jason Zucker scored his second goal of the game with 1:10 left in overtime, giving Minnesota the 3-2 win over Carolina.
Minnesota had to kill off an overtime power play to set up the winner.
It was Minnesota’s first win in three overtime games this season and the Hurricanes first loss in four extra periods. It was the third straight win for the Wild.
Thomas Vanek scored the other Minnesota goal.
