Southern Rowan’s most popular holiday tradition will fill the streets of Landis and China Grove on Tuesday.

The Southern Rowan Christmas Parade will start Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Landis and 4 p.m. in China Grove. This year’s grand marshal is the 2015 Rowan County Little League Softball Team, which won the World Series. There are 100 total participants scheduled to be in the parade.

A majority of Main Street in China Grove and Landis will close shortly before the parade begins. Some side streets will be closed as part of the parade festivities. In Landis, Main Street will be closed from West 5th to West Limits Street. Roads connecting to Main Street from West 1st to West 5th streets will also be closed. In China Grove, Main Street will be closed from Kirk to Ross streets. The start point in China Grove is slightly different from previous years. Instead of Stevens Street, the parade will begin at Kirk Street.

In Landis, walking units are scheduled to line up on Highland Avenue, wheels on 4th Street, sirens on 3rd Street, Cline’s Pro Floats in Corriher Ball Field, Queens on 1st Street and Oversized in the gravel lot by Michael’s. Lineup is between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

In China Grove, the restart point will be at Kirk and Main streets instead of Stevens Street.

Lt. Andrew Deal, of the China Grove Police Department, said motorists should remain calm and drive slowly after the parade because of the high volume of traffic, pedestrians and low visibility during evening hours. Deal said Ross, Church, Franklin and Vance streets will be extremely congested due to participants being picked up after the parade.
