A woman was briefly trapped in her car after she was involved in a single car accident in the 7700 block of Bringle Ferry Road Friday afternoon.
Trooper S.L. Herrin says that Jana Fortenberry told Highway Patrol she looked down to get a cigarette when she hit an embankment and her car overturned. She was trapped briefly until fire crews were able to free her from the car.
Norman File, who lives next door to where the wreck occurred, said that Fortenberry was trapped in the car for 15 to 20 minutes. He said she appeared to be in a lot of pain, but was up and walking around after she was able to get out of the car and had to be convinced to go to the hospital.
Fortenberry was taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center for treatment.
