A chicken dinner will be held Saturday evening to raise funds to help Robert Gilmore, a Salisbury High School student who is battling cancer for the third time in his life.

The dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Haven Lutheran Church, 207 W. Harrison Street. Participants may eat in or carry out.

Tickets are $8 and can be purchased in advance or at the door. For more information, contact Cameron Walker at 704-797-1577 or Alicia Shue at 704-433-7099.

Gilmore served as honorary coach to the Catawba College football team one week in November as it practiced and played against Lenoir-Rhine.

In July of this year, the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education presented its first ever Courage Award to Gilmore. He was named prom king by his classmates at Salisbury High last spring and has served as a manager of his school’s football team, the Salisbury High Hornets.

Gilmore is the son of Wendy Baskins and Travis Hairston.
