Celebration Sunday at S. China Grove UMC
CHINA GROVE — Celebration Sunday at South China Grove United Methodist Church, 230 Rose Ave., will be Sunday at 9:30 a.m., this year celebrating the life of 9-year-old Angel Thompson. Angel underwent two brain tumor surgeries, in 2010 and 2012, followed by a chemotherapy regimen of 60 months.
During her many stays at the hospital she played with lots of games and toys. Since then she has been collecting Gifts from Angels because she said all the people that donate to children are Angels.
To date, more than 3,000 gifts have been delivered to Levine’s and Jeff Gordon’s children’s hospitals and local community hospitals. Angel will give her testimony during the worship service. Matthew Weaver has volunteered to sing at the celebration.
A fellowship meal will be served about 11:30 a.m. Dr. S. B. “Doc” Warner is pastor.
Clothing giveaway today at Shady Grove
EAST SPENCER — The Missionary Ministry of Shady Grove Baptist Church, 600 S. Long St., will have a free clothing giveaway from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for men, women and children, also household items

Mt. Moriah Lutheran
Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church, 750 Mt. Moriah Church Road, will celebrate homecoming on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. For the 190 year celebration, the Rev. Perry L. Beaver will be guest pastor.
Pastor Beaver spent his ministry in the New England Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). There will be a picnic lunch after the service. Host pastor is Joseph Tallent.
Homecoming at Heritage Baptist
CONCORD — Heritage Baptist Church, 274 Honeycutt Drive, will observe homecoming on Sunday. The 10:30 a.m. service will be followed by a meal.
Fall revival is Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. with Pastor Bobby Roberson from Gospel Light Baptist Church in Walkertown. Terry Cruse is the pastor.
Pastoral celebration
at The Vineyard
The Vineyard Worship Center at 2655 Dunns Mountain Road, will hold the inaugural pastoral celebration for pastor and founder Alice H. Perry on Sunday. The 11 a.m. speaker will be Minister Judy Richards, associate minister of Files Chapel Baptist Church of Lexington.
The celebration will continue at 3 p.m. with the Rev. John Leazer, pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church of Concord.
Lutheran Chapel observes homecoming
CHINA GROVE — Lutheran Chapel Church will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, with the Rev. Dr. Delmer Chilton as guest preacher. Music will be under the direction of Gail Deal, organist, and Phyllis Daugherty and Sharon Connelly, choir directors.
The service is at 10:30 a.m. with no early service that day. A picnic lunch will follow.
Women’s Day at New Creation Baptist
STATESVILLE — New Creation Baptist Church at 792 Glover St. will observe Women’s Day Sunday at 3 p.m. Guest speaker is Minister LaMonica Dalton from Purpose and Life Christian Church in Statesville.

Franklin celebrates Scots-Irish heritage
There will be a celebration of Scots-Irish heritage and homecoming at Franklin Presbyterian Church, 280 Franklin Church Drive, on Sunday. The 10:30 a.m. worship service will be followed by a Celtic-Southern meal.
The worship service is based on the Order of Worship of 1637 of the Church of Scotland, a unique worship experience which includes bagpipers, drummers, tartans and roll call of the clans.

Providence United Methodist Church and Providence AME Zion Church would like to thank everyone who came out and supported the Stop Hunger Now mission project. More than 90 participants packaged 10,000 meals to be sent to schools, orphanages and crisis relief around the world.

Pastor Sides remembered at Emmanuel Baptist
On Sunday at 11 a.m. Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2330 Bringle Ferry Road, welcomes Dr. Benny Vickrey as he brings the message Pastor Gene Sides had outlined while he was at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. The Lord called Pastor Sides home on Sept. 26, while he was in hospital.
Using a copy of Pastor Gene’s handwritten notes, Brother Benny will bring the message “He maketh me to lie down” from Psalm 23, something Pastor Gene wanted everyone to hear.

Dinner at Saint James Episcopal
MOORESVILLE — A spaghetti dinner will be hosted by Saint James Episcopal Church, 851 Shinnville Road next Saturday, Oct. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. Adults are $7; children, $5.

St. Paul’s 128th anniversary
CHINA GROVE — St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 811 N. Enochville Ave., will celebrate its 128th anniversary on Sunday. Strings of Victory, a bluegrass gospel band led by former member Jeffrey McCorkle, will lead the 10:30 a.m. service.
A brief service at 5 p.m. in the fellowship hall will include a tribute to deceased members of the church.
A meal including spaghetti, salad, and desserts will be served afterwards.

Autumn Fest coming
to Mount Mitchell
Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church’s fourth annual Autumn Fest is Saturday, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. with barbecue plates and sandwiches, hotdog meal for children, an encampment, “Bee” monster truck, a mechanical bull, woodworking demonstrations, hit-and-miss engines, arts, crafts, handmade items and vendors. There will be live music by Defenders of the Cross from 3 to 4 p.m. and Second Chance performing from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Sherrills Ford Road Baptist Fall VBS
The Youth on Mission group at Sherrills Ford Road Baptist Church, 6455 Sherrills Ford Road, are hosting a Fall Vacation Bible School on Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for children ages 4- 8. A nursery will be provided if needed. Just show up at the Church at 10 a.m. for registration.
Community Fun Fest
On Saturday, Oct. 25 Christ United Methodist Church, 3401 Mooresville Road, will hold a community Fun Fest.
The road rally starts at 8 a.m. and there will be musical entertainment from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be bounce houses and games from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the corn hole tourney is at 1 p.m., there will be a blessing of the animals at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and trunk or treat runs from 6 to 7 p.m. Food will be available.

Trick or Treat
So Others May Eat
Rowan Helping Ministries is looking for churches or youth groups to participate in its annual ‘Trick or Treat So Others May Eat’ food drive. Groups will distribute trick or treat bags to homes in the area and will collect the bags and donated food a week later.
The weigh-in of donated food is 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26 in the parking lot of Rowan Helping Ministries’ Robertson-Stanback Center, 217 N. Long St. Pizza and drinks will be provided while the food is weighed.
This is a great way for teens to be involved in helping families in need. Last year this event provided enough food for two weeks. Event organizers hope to break the record this year and bring in enough food for a month.

J.C. Price sponsors event for kids
On Thursday, Oct. 30 from 5-6 p.m., the J.C. Price American Legion Post 107 will hold a Halloween and Crime Prevention program for children and youth with refreshments, music, prizes, face painting and homemade cookies and prizes for the three best costumes. World of Faith Hallelujah Festival
