If you’re looking for variety in your weather, North Carolina can certainly provide. We’ve got rain, snow and sun in the next week’s forecast.
Today will be dreary with a chance of flooding following heavy rains this afternoon, particularly in low-lying areas.
The chance of rain today is 100 percent, with rain coming mainly in the afternoon. Patchy fog is possible later this afternoon, and the high will be 46. Wind will pick up from the northeast at 5-10 mph. We could get an inch or more of rain during a relatively short period.
Showers are likely tonight, too, with a 60 percent chance. Expect more fog and a low of 36 with continued northwest wind.
Saturday will be mostly sunny and warmer, with a high of 54 and west wind at 3-8 mph. Saturday night brings a chance of snow towards the wee hours of Sunday. The low will be 33, but the chance of snow is a mere 20 percent.
Sunday has a chance of rain and snow before 11 a.m., then a chance of rain into the afternoon. Altogether, the chance of precipitation is 40 percent. But it will be partly sunny and 44.
Sunday night will be partly cloudy and cold, with a low of 24.
More sun is expected for Martin Luther King Day, but it will be quite cold, with a high of just 36. Grab the extra blankets, it’s going to be a three-dog night (or five cats) because the low will be 18. Seriously, be sure family and friends have a safe way to stay warm, along with the animals.
Tuesday will be mostly sunny again, and a little colder, with a high of 35. But the low will be 23, still very cold.
Mostly sunny for Wednesday, too, with a high of 42. The low will be 28.
Thursday will be a bit warmer, with a high of 46 under partly sunny skies.
