Shovels, ice melt and heaters. That’s what many customers have been asking local stores for, and what local stores are out of.

Chris Handy, assistant store manager of Lowe’s Home Improvement, suggested that people might want to get some ice melt and also batteries and flashlights in case of power outages. The store ran out of snow shovels yesterday.

Sherri Shulze, one of the assistant managers at Tractor Supply Company, said some people might want to get shavings or pine straw to keep animals warm.

She also said people have been coming into the store to buy outerwear and might also want to get heat lamps and heat bulbs to keep in their well houses or to warm outdoor animals. Customers have been filling up their propane tanks and buying gas and kerosene cans for sources of heat.

Both Lowe’s and Tractor Supply are out of generators.

Jennifer Wilson, warehouse supervisor at Harbor Freight Tools, said the store is almost out of generators. She suggested that people might want to get power inverters to run their heaters if there is a power outage.

She also said people have been asking for electric heaters, which the store sells, and kerosene heaters, which the store does not sell.

All three stores are currently operating under normal store hours.
