Staff report

Weather-related postponements have forced tweaks to the high school basketball schedule.
West Rowan’s girls, ranked 10th in the 3A media poll that was released by NCPreps.com on Tuesday, now will be playing South Piedmont Conference games three nights in a row.
West (14-2, 10-0) is at South Rowan tonight in a makeup game, hosts Carson on Thursday in another makeup and plays Central Cabarrus at home on Friday.
West’s girls haven’t gone undefeated in league play since the 2004-05 season when they went 14-0 in the North Piedmont Conference. The Falcons are playing 18 conference games this season. That’s not the most in history, believe it or not. In the 1976-77 season, West played 20 NPC contests.
Sixth-ranked Hickory Ridge is the other contender in the SPC girls race. The Ragin’ Bulls (15-2, 11-1), whose only SPC loss came at home to West Rowan, play tonight at East Rowan in a rescheduled game.
East Rowan’s girls could change their season with an upset win. The Mustangs (10-8, 5-7) are in eighth place in the tightly-bunched SPC, but they’re only one game behind fourth-place Carson.
West Rowan’s boys (5-11, 3-7) will be out to break a six-game skid when they visit South (0-17, 0-11) tonight.
East Rowan’s ninth-place boys (3-1, 1-11) will be big underdogs when they entertain fourth-place Hickory Ridge (12-5, 8-4) tonight.

In the CCC, the big news is that the Thomasville-Salisbury matchup will now be played at Salisbury tonight.
It’s a big game for the Hornets (14-3, 3-1). They’re tying to hang on to second place in the CCC, one game (in the loss column) behind North Rowan.
Salisbury senior D.J. Alexander has an opportunity to score his 1,000th career point at home tonight. He has 984 points.
It’s also a key game for Salisbury’s girls. Salisbury and Thomasville are tied for third in the CCC with 2-2 records.
North Rowan’s teams don’t play until they go to Lexington on Friday.
North’s boys (15-2, 5-0) have won eight straight games. The Cavaliers are ranked fourth in 2A again this week.
North’s girls (12-5, 4-1) are in second place in the CCC behind second-ranked and undefeated East Davidson.
