Livingstone men fall to Falcons, 66-64

SALISBURY —St. Augustine’s took the lead with just under four minutes to play and went on to defeate Livingstone, 66-64, in men’s college basketball action Wednesday night at New Trent Gym.
The loss, Livingstone’s third in a row and seventh in its last eight games, leaves the Blue Bears with an overall record of 8-13 and a CIAA mark of 3-5. St. Augustine’s improves to 5-13 overall and 1-8 in the conference.
The Falcons’ Nick Moyer scored on a layup with 3:49 left, moving the visitors into a 59-58 lead. Quincy January followed with another layup about a minute later for a three-point advantage.
Two free throws by the Blue Bears’ Eric Dubose made it 61-60 at the 1:17 mark, but St. Augustine’s Keith Crawford’s jumper with 56 seconds remaining pushed the lead back to three points at 63-60.
Dubose again cut the Livingstone deficit to one point with a basket at 49 seconds, but two foul shots by Moyer seven seconds later made the score 65-62.
Dubose had a layup with 30 seconds left, again cutting the Falcons’ lead to one point, but Nick Tennell made one of two free throws with 15 second left for the final margin.
Livingstone’s had one last try to tie the score but Daryl Trynham’s layup missed and the Falcons held on for the win.
Austin Harris led Livingstone with 11 points, while Dubose and Mark Johnson scored 10 points each. Anthony Gaskins had a game-high 19 points for St. Augustine’s and January added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Jimmy Wilson led the Blue Bears with seven rebounds while Trynham dished out five assists.
Livingstone returns to action on Saturday, hosting Winston-Salem State at 4 p.m.
