The flash flood watch issued earlier has been canceled. The line of severe storms has passed our area and mainly light rain is expected for the rest of the day.

Update:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS EXPANDED THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH TO INCLUDE PORTIONS OF NORTH CAROLINA AND UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA…INCLUDING ROWAN COUNTY AND SURROUNDING REGION

* UNTIL 7 PM EST THIS EVENING

* A LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL SWEEP EAST ACROSS THE FOOTHILLS AND PIEDMONT THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON. THIS LINE HAS A HISTORY OF PRODUCING FLASH FLOODING ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE MOUNTAINS AND ADJACENT FOOTHILLS. TORRENTIAL RAINFALL WILL ACCOMPANY THIS LINE…LIKELY PRODUCING 2 TO 4 INCHES OF RAIN WITHIN ONE TO TWO HOURS.

* ENHANCED RAIN RATES ASSOCIATED WITH THUNDERSTORMS AND HEAVY RAIN SHOWERS COULD RESULT IN FLASH FLOODING ALONG ESPECIALLY FLOOD PRONE CREEKS AND SMALL STREAMS. THE WIDESPREAD NATURE OF THE HEAVY RAIN WILL ALSO CAUSE ELEVATED LEVELS ON MAIN STEM RIVERS.
