CONCORD — Southern Grace Distilleries of Concord sponsored a contest to pick a North Carolina animal shelter to receive a donation for every bottle of their Sun Dog 130 Moonshine sold in North Carolina in 2015. The winner was Friends of Animal Services of Onslow County. It was chosen by an online vote out of nearly 100 North Carolina shelters nominated.
Nominations for the next shelter to benefit from sales of Sun Dog 130 are being accepted now.
Friends of Animal Services used the funds donated to them from the sale of Sun Dog 130 Moonshine in 2015 to pay for life saving medical care for animals in need.
“It has been a gift to have the support of Southern Grace Distilleries throughout this year. Their generosity has allowed us to provide additional funds in cases of medical emergencies to help shelter pets with life altering surgeries, giving them an opportunity for health and happiness that would otherwise not have been possible. To everyone that has purchased Sun Dog 130, you have helped to make the world of our shelter friends a better place. Thank you,” said Jennifer Monteforte, with Friends of Animal Services.
“It was exciting to see so many wonderful organizations participate in this contest and to see the good that has come from our donation. My dear Mia enjoyed a party, and she enjoyed the company of cool, kind people and their pets. This contest and donation is intended to honor her memory and make a tangible contribution to people who have committed their lives to the humane, loving care of animals,” said Thomas Thacker, COO of Southern Grace Distilleries. The Sun Dog 130 label features Mia as the Sun Dog.

The North Carolina-made corn whiskey was awarded a gold medal at the 2015 San Diego International Spirits Competition and a silver medal in Louisville, Kentucky, at the 2015 American Craft Spirits Competition. This month, Sun Dog 130 was chosen as one of six distilled spirits to be showcased at the U.S. Beverage Industry Expo in Washington, DC. Sun Dog 130 moonshine is available in North Carolina ABC stores.
