Dr. Catrelia Hunter, former vice president and interim president of Livingstone College, is the featured speaker at the 22nd Annual African-American History Breakfast at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center on Friday, Feb. 26.

The breakfast was first held in 1994, being organized by the late Salisbury Mayor Wiley Lash who served on the Rufty-Holmes Board. The event is designed to recognize and honor the accomplishments of African-Americans on the local, state and national level during Black History Month.

A native of Cleveland, Dr. Hunter served Livingstone College as vice president for institutional advancement prior to taking over as interim president from which she retired in 2006. She has served as a member of Rowan Regional Medical Center Board, Rowan County United Way Board, Salisbury Symphony Board, Robertson Family Foundation Board and with Salisbury-Rowan Human Relations Council,  as well as serving the Presbyterian Church on the local, Synod and national levels. She is a member of the Rowan Rotary Club and the local AAUW Chapter, she has been an active participant and volunteer with the West Rowan Lunch Club for several years and she joined the Rufty-Holmes board of directors in July 2015.

The breakfast is sponsored by the J.P. Johnson Memorial Society and begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Center located on South Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue in Salisbury.
