Sno Biz of Granite Quarry re-opening on March 4
Sno Biz of Granite Quarry, a snow cone shop at 924 N. Salisbury GQ Ave., is re-opening on March 4 for the 2016 season.
Owned and operated by Robert and Kristan Friel, the shop primarily serves shaved ice, which comes in more than 150 flavors. It also serves Hershey’s ice cream, hand-dipped milkshakes, fresh fruit smoothies, ice-blended coffees and Granita fruit slushes.
The business started as a Sno Biz cart at the former Salisbury Mall. The couple then sold their snow cones at different fairs and events, such as Faith’s Fourth of July Fair Week, the Rowan County Fair, Autumn Jubilee, church and school events and corporate functions.
Kristan Friel said their snow cones are different from traditional ones because they shave ice from a block of ice, as opposed to using an ice grinding machine. The shaved-off ice is put into a cup and the ice shavers form the ice on the top of the cup into a ball. The ice is then filled with high quality Sno Biz fruit flavors. Friel said because of the tender texture of the snow, the syrup is held within its texture instead of sinking to the bottom of the cone.
Sno Biz of Granite Quarry is open seven days a week and will have extended hours during the summer months.
