Input needed on state capitol monument

For the first time in the state’s history, a memorial honoring the contributions of African Americans to our state will soon be erected on the grounds of our historic State Capitol in Raleigh.

I am thrilled that this long-overdue recognition, with the blessing of Gov. Pat McCrory and unanimous vote of the N.C. Historical Commission, will finally become a reality. A committee comprised of several members of that commission and from the African American Heritage Commission will determine what the monument will be. Our citizens will have an opportunity during the month of March to give input to this committee.

I urge all who would like to submit an opinion to do so during four regional public hearings to be held in Greensboro on March 1 (today), Charlotte on March 8, Rocky Mount on March 22 and Fayetteville on March 29 at 6:30 p.m.

If unable to attend, citizens may send comments to our department’s website at www.ncdcr.gov/monuments-feedback.

This is an exciting advancement for all who strive to improve race relations in our state, and I look forward to following this process and celebrating the day that our State Capitol’s beauty is enhanced with this monument recognizing the contributions of African Americans.

Warren makes full-time commitment to serve

Harry Warren is a hardworking, knowledgeable representative for us in Raleigh. He is one of the few that will tackle difficult challenges.

Harry is accessible and conducts town hall meetings to hear the concerns of citizens. Harry sends out informative newsletters that are available to all.

Being a representative in the N.C. House in Raleigh is a full-time commitment that deserves a full-time person. We are blessed to have that person in Harry Warren. I support his campaign for District 77.
