SALISBURY – J.L. Hoff-ner, 82, of Salisbury, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006, at W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt;Born April 29, 1924, in Rowan County, Mr. Hoffner was a son of the late Clementime Reid Hoffner and David Linn Hoffner. A 1942 graduate of Rockwell High School, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the Third Army Tank Battalion. He was among the first group of 18-year-olds drafted from Rowan County. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt;Mr. Hoffner worked 21 years for N.C. Finishing Company and retired from Hoechst-Celanese after 19 years of service. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt;He was a member of Union Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday School for 50 years, and St. Matthews Lutheran Church. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt;Mr. Hoffner is survived by his wife of 49 years, Colleen Haynes Hoffner; son Pastor Jeffrey Hoffner and wife Lee-ann of Concord; daughter Cindy Hoffner Moss and husband Richard of Mount Holly; grandchildren Timothy, Christopher and Leah Hoff-ner; brother Claude Hoffner of Winston-Salem; and sisters Lorene Barringer, Beatrice Snider of Churchland and Virginia Kirk and Betty Cauble of Salisbury. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt;Service: 3 p.m. Tuesday at Union Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. C.P. Fisher officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt;Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at Lyerly Funeral Home. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt;Memorials: Union Lutheran Church, 4770 Bringle Ferry Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.
