Gospel Explosion at Lilly’s Chapel today
Lilly’s Chapel Church of God, 618 W. Thomas St., is hosting a Gospel Explosion today at 6:30 p.m. There will be various soloists, groups, praise dancers and mime ministries participating. Also, Lilly’s Chapel musician Brother Thomas Clawson Jr. will be honored during the service.

See ‘The War Room’ at Lyerly Evangelical
ROCKWELL — Lyerly Evangelical Church, 1320 Crescent Road, will show the movie “The War Room” this evening at 7 p.m. Released in 2015, the movie stars T.C. Stallings, Priscilla Shirer, Alena Pitts and Karen Abercrombie. The family is struggling when a stranger encourages them to find happiness through prayer.

Youth Sunday at First Presbyterian
At the 8:50 a.m. Life Center worship and the 11 a.m. sanctuary worship at First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury (corner of W. Innes and S. Fulton St.), the youth of the church will lead the sercives.
Their theme this year is “Keep Pounding: Christian Perseverance in the Faith.” The 12th grade youth will speak about their spiritual journeys and how God is right there with them.
A traditional worship service will be held at 8:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. Host pastor is Dr. Jim C. Dunkin.
Fourth Sunday at Mount Zion UCC
CHINA GROVE — Sunday at Mount Zion UCC,1415 S. Main St. begins at 9:30 a.m. with breakfast, prepared by Pat Corriher and team.
The regular Fourth Sunday program is at 10 a.m. with guest speaker Judy Davis from Water Mission International. Davis will be talking about the April 24 “Walk for Water” 3 p.m. gathering at Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis, regarding what women the world over do daily to provide water for their families.

Turner in concert at Landis First Assembly
LANDIS — Gospel bass singer Ken Turner will be in concert at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at Landis First Assembly, 302 E. Corriher St.
Turner once sang with the famous Blackwood Brothers Quartet as well as the Palmetto State Quartet and the Dixie Echoes.
His first RCA recording with the Blackwoods won a Grammy award. Several years later, their radio single, “Learning to Lean,” smashed all existing records. With Turner as bass singer, the quartet appeared on programs such as “The Barbara Mandrell Show” and “Hee Haw.” They also sang at the Presidential prayer breakfast for former President Jimmy Carter and at several Billy Graham crusades.
First UCC hosts youth Sunday
First United Church of Christ, 207 W. Horah St., celebrates Youth Sunday at the 11 a.m. service on Sunday. Using instruments including percussion, tambourine, guitar, as well as dance scarves, the youth will share their message with the congregation. The prelude and postlude are original works written by youth member Ashley Goad. Time with Adults will be presented by Sam Reeder, and James Satterwhite is Lay Reader. The Chancel Choir Catawba Scholars will serve as greeters and ushers. The First UCC Children’s Choir will sing the benediction.
Following worship, a spaghetti lunch will be served with proceeds going to help defray the cost of the trip in July to the National Youth Event at Disney World. Lydia Price is youth director and the Rev. Carol Hallman is host pastor. For more information, call 704-633-2723.
Sills Creek AME Zion holds Women’s Day
MOORESVILLE — Sills Creek AME Zion Church, 3165 Bradshaw Road, will celebrate Women’s Day on Sunday, April 17. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m. followed by the service at 3 p.m. The Rev. Carolyn Bratton of Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church is the guest speaker.

Women in White at Trinity Presbyterian
The women of Trinity Presbyterian Church, 300 S. Caldwell St., will present “Women In White” on Sunday at 4 p.m., sponsored by the Lend-A-Hand Women’s Circle.
Guest speaker will be Lady Selenea Fowler Barker of Refuge Community Church in Cooleemee, where she serves as Sunday school teacher, praise and worship leader, advisor to ministries and correspondence secretary.
The theme of the program is “Walking By Faith.” All ladies are asked to wear white.

Pre-anniversary at Mt. Calvary Holy
A pre-anniversary service will be held at Mt. Calvary Holy Church, 1401 Standish St., on Sunday, April 17 at 5 p.m. The guest speaker will be Dr. Larry Blackwell of Move of God Ministries, Greensboro.
Revival at China Grove Church of God

United Ministerial Alliance joint service
STATESVILLE – The United Ministerial Alliance will host its joint worship service at 7 p.m., Sunday, April 17 at New Creation Baptist Church, 792 Glover St. The Rev. Joseph Robinson is host pastor. The Rev. Gena Long, pastor of Potter’s House Outreach Ministries, is the guest preacher.

Mission conference at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist
Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church will hold its 2016 Mission Conference, “The Churches Response in Critical Times,” on Saturday and Sunday, April 23 -24. There will be workshops beginning with registration and a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday presented by The Rev. Dr. David Bracken, the Rev. Harold Johnson and the Rev. Sherman Mason. Workshop topics are Responding to Disasters, Responding to the Loss of a Loved One and Developing Strategies for Visitation. The Rev. Annie H. Concordia Lutheran will walk for MD
Concordia Lutheran Church will participate in the 2016 Muscle Walk, sponsored by the Muscular Dystrophy Association, on April 23 in Cornelius. Concordia’s team will be walking in honor of church member and friend Zachary Smith. This is an annual fundraiser for local MDA camps and to assist patients with medical and equip needs.

Southern Gospel concert at Kirkwood
KANNAPOLIS — Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, 900 Klondale Ave., presents a Southern Gospel concert featuring the Burris Family, a local group. The concert is free and a love offering will be received. Livingstone College Prayer Meeting Choir Alumni
The reunion celebrating the 56th anniversary of the Livingstone College Prayer Meeting Choir, honoring former director and pianist Shipps L. Washington, will be held on Saturday, April 23, at 7 p.m.at the Little Theater of Livingstone College.
Special guests include Chosen From Atlanta, Ga., the C-3 Praise Ministry from Richmond, Va., the L.C. Gospel Choir, Elder Owen Forbes and others.
Sweet Adelines to appear at St. John’s
The Charlotte A Cappella Show Chorus, a member group of the Sweet Adelines, will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 23, in the Faith Center of St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 W. Innes St., Downtown Salisbury. The chorus performs female barbershop harmonies, and a freewill offering will benefit Sudan Rowan.
‘Women in Hats’ program at Boxwood
MOCKSVILLE — The annual Women in Hats program at Boxwood Missionary Baptist Church will be next Sunday, April 24, at 2 p.m. Guest speaker will be Pastor Ruby Clark of Shiloh Baptist Church of Mocksville. Boxwood’s pastor is Gary S. Milton.
Saint James Male Chorus at Franklin
The Saint James Male Chorus will perform at Franklin Presbyterian Church, 280 Franklin Church Drive, April 24 at 6 p.m.
The Saint James Male Chorus has been spreading the Gospel through music since 1956, representing multiple churches, denominations, and communities, with 25-31 men singing for the purpose of glorifying God through song.
The Saint James Male Chorus will present a free one hour musical testimonial of Old Time Southern Gospel Music at 6 p.m., followed by a fellowship meal at 7 p.m.
L-R, Newberry choirs present joint concert
CHARLOTTE — In commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017, the combined choirs of Lenoir-Rhyne University and Newberry College will present a collaborative concert next Sunday, April 24, at 7 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Charlotte. Carter Woolly, a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Salisbury, is a member of the Lenoir-Rhyne A Cappella Choir.

Arthur Lee Heggins and Pres. Emeritus Robert Freeman. The clergy and pastors of this area met and organized near the beginning of World War II. The purpose of the SRMA has been a gathering of clergy of many faith and religious traditions to provide community enrichment and collegiality. It includes sharing of food and co-sponsoring diverse cultural and spiritual programs.
