STORRS, Conn. — Freshman Gavin Edwards scored 16 points as No. 18 Connecticut beat Albany
86-55 Sunday, extending the Huskies’ home winning streak to 24 games.
This meeting was far different from last year’s in the first round of the NCAA tournament, when Connecticut overcame a 12-point deficit in the final 11 minutes to win 72-59.
Thirteen Huskies played against the Great Danes (2-2), and six scored in double figures.
Edwards, a 6-foot-9 forward, had scored only one point and grabbed two rebounds in UConn’s first four games.
Albany led by as much as five early and was up 18-17 before UConn went on a 22-4 run.
UConn’s Marcus Johnson had 14 points, 11 in the first half. Thabeet had 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. A.J. Price added 13 points, Jerome Dyson 12, and Jeff Adrien scored 11 and had seven boards.
