Livingstone sweeps

Livingstone’s men’s basketball team defeated CIAA opponent Saint Augustine’s 93-76 at New Trent Gymnasium on Monday night.
Mark Thomas made his presence known on both ends of the court and scored 31 points.
He hit three, triples. He ended the first half with 21 points and also had five assists in the first half.
Cornelius Johnson dominated in the paint in the first half. Johnson grabbed four boards and scored seven points. He finished the game with eight points.
Anthony Welch scored 18 off the bench.
Eric Mayo played a tremendous down low game, scoring 15 points and snatching 12 rebounds.
“The chemistry was there tonight, we all played our role on the court and had great communication with our coaches,” Mayo said.
Jody Hill scored 15 points.
The Blue Bears only had six turnovers the entire game.
Livingstone returns to action at Shaw on Saturday.
Livingstone used a team effort to notch its second CIAA Southern Division win against Saint Augustine’s on Monday.
Seven different Lady Blue Bears scored six or more points during Livingstone’s 85-81 win at New Trent Gym.
Livingstone turned 19 turnovers into 20 points.
Cierra York scored 20 points to lead the Blue Bears. Tiffany Evans had 19, and Ashley Walker scored 14.
The Blue Bears had four players to score double figures. Taylor Daniels had 12 points and 17 rebounds for the Blue Bears (11-10, 6-5).
Michael Childress had a hole-in-one on No. 6 at the Salisbury Country Club on Sunday.
Childress made the ace on the 157-yard line with an 8-iron.
His second career hole-in-one was witnessed by Jeff Childress, Bob Casmus and Will Casmus.
• Ben Craighead, John Kyger and Bob Mangum won the Super Bowl Tournament at the Country Club of Salisbury with a team score of 130.
Runners-up were Burl Brady, Scott Brady and Bob Chinn with a 133 total.
East Rowan is the host team tonight for two rounds in the 3A dual team state playoffs.
East will wrestle Sun Valley at 6, while North Iredell wrestles East Gaston.
Then the winners meet at 7:30 p.m.
Wrestling will continue on Thursday with the third and regional rounds.
Salisbury also is a host team tonight for two rounds in the 2A tournament.
Davie’s boys basketball team lost 74-57 to North Davidson in CPC action in Welcome on Monday.
Nic Starnes led Davie with 11 points, while Heath Slabach scored 10.
Peyton Sell was held to seven by the Black Knights.
Brandon Easter led North Davidson with 19 points.
The CCISAA jayvee boys tournament was played on Thursday and Saturday at Salisbury Academy.
Schools that participated were Burlington Christian, Concordia, Hickory Christian, Sacred Heart, Salisbury Academy, Statesville Christian, and Winston-Salem Christian.
Burlington Christian won the tournament, with, Hickory Christian second and Salisbury Academy third.
Salisbury Academy won 42-37 against Sacred Heart in the third-place game.
George Fisher led the way with 19 points and strong rebounding and was tournament MVP.
Mitch Jeter added nine points, and Marshall Overcash had six.
The Jaguars have two more games to finish out the season in a tournament next week at Summit School in Winston-Salem.
• The jayvee girls tournament was at Sacred Heart.
Sacred Heart won 21-18 against Salisbury Academy.
Emma Shelby who came back to play from an injured knee led a big defensive effort by the Jaguars, along with Virginia Moy Robertson had, Bunny Showfety and Emily Cipolla.
Madelynn Castor led the Jaguars with 12 points.
• The Salisbury Academy varsity girls defeated Statesville Christian 22-15 and Winston Salem Christian 35-27 in their last two conference games.
The Jaguars were led in scoring by Annabel Barr and Ellen Simons with six points each, and Maria Capito with five points in the Statesville Christian win.
Capito led the team with 15 points against Winston Salem Christian. Barr scored eight. Ellen Simons scored seven, and Ivy Overcash had five.
Overcash and Emily Mann led the team in rebounding in both games and Capito led the team in assists.
The Jaguars will participate in the CCISAA conference tournament starting on Thursday.
Knox’s seventh-grade girls beat mooresville 32-30.
Bryanna Troutman had 18 points.
Taylor Bailey converted the game winning layup with three seconds left on a pass from Troutman.
• Knox beat Southeast 59-23 to improve to 2-0.
Troutman had 28 points, while Bailey had 12. Tacora Robinson had seven points and Essence Summer had eight.
• Corriher Lipe’s girls defeated West Rowan Middle 37-22.
Corriher Lipe was led by Janiya Downs with 20 points.
Ashlyh Plott scored eight.
West Middle was led by Chantal Robinson with 11 pts, Kia Pharr with six, and Hannah Pratt with five.

Carson’s boys won 50-46 at West Rowan.
Bryson Collins scored 13 points to lead the Cougars.
Armoni Hogue had 11, Malon Herron had 10, and Brenden Westbrook scored eight.
