First Calvary Baptist Gospel Explosion

First Calvary Baptist Church, 400 S. Long St., is hosting a Gospel Music Explosion today at 4 p.m., in memory of its founder the late Charles McGee, who sponsored the event annually as a part of First Calvary’s Gospel Choir Anniversary Celebration.

Program participants include The Echoes for Christ, Unity in Praise, Messengers for Christ, Keith Holland and Friends N Christ, Truthful Praise and The Gethsemane Singers of Davidson. McGee was known throughout Salisbury, Rowan and surrounding counties for his personal ministry through music and as a member of several musical groups.

A devoted member of First Calvary, McGee served on the deacon and trustee boards, and was a member of the men’s, adult and gospel choirs. He worked with youth sports leagues for many years and received several awards, including the Dr. Martin L. King Jr. Humanitarian Award. This annual tribute to his memory is free and family friendly. Rev. Leamon E. Brown is host pastor. For more information, call 704-633 2818.

Poor man supper and gospel sing

Bethel United Methodist Church, 2380 Long Ferry Road, will host a poor man supper and gospel sing today from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Donations are appreciated. The singing starts at 7 p.m. and features the gospel group Raising Glory. Donations go toward Bethel Women’s Missions.

Livingstone College Prayer Meeting Choir Alumni Reunion 

Reminder of change in venue: The Livingstone College Prayer Meeting Choir Alumni Reunion concert will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at Varick Auditorium on the campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

Annual Pastor’s Concert

LEXINGTON — On Sunday at 10:45 a.m., Christ United Church of Christ will host its annual Pastor’s Concert. Once a year, the pastor, Dr. Alan Hutchens, presents an hour-long vocal gospel concert during the morning worship time. No admission fee will be charged. Usher’s Anniversary at Jerusalem

SPENCER — Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1570 North Long St., will celebrate its ushers’ anniversary on Sunday during the 11 a.m. service. The Rev. Barbara Barbour, associate minister at Jerusalem, will be the speaker. Music will be rendered by the Mass Choir under the direction of Keith Holland, minister of music. The highlight of the program will be special presentations to honor the youth ushers. Doris Boyd-Brown is president of the usher ministry and the Rev. Dr. David Bracken is senior pastor.

Cedar Grove AME Zion anniversary

CLEVELAND — The 137th church anniversary will be observed at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church during the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday.  In addition, the remodeled children’s classroom will be dedicated in memory of Linda Gregory. Host pastor is the Rev. Dr. Bertha E. Pittman.

Rhema Praise and Worship anniversary 

SPENCER — On Sunday, April 24, Pastor Alonza Williams Sr. and Associate Pastor Joyce Williams of Rhema Praise and Worship Church, 117 Long Ferry Road, will celebrate their fifth pastoral anniversary beginning at 11 a.m. Minister Patrick Jones Jr. of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Mt. Ulla will bring the morning message and Pastor Rickey Johnson of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Granite Quarry will bring the 3:30 p.m. message .

Women’s Day at Third Creek

CLEVELAND — Third Creek AME Zion Church, 415 E. Main St., will celebrate Women’s Day on Sunday, April 24. Erwin Temple’s 90th anniversary

Erwin Temple Church will celebrate its 90th anniversary Sunday. The morning message will be give by the pastor, the Rev. Ervin L. Hannah Jr. The Men’s choir will sing under the direction of minister of music Harold Moore. Lunch will be served from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Afternoon worship will begin at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Carolyn Bratton, pastor of Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, as guest minister.

Erwin Temple Christian Methodist Church was established in 1926 under the leadership of the Rev. J.S. Miller. The first church building was completed in 1929. The second structure, in use since 1997, was built under the leadership of the Rev. Calvin E. Smith. The current pastor is the Rev. Ervin L. Hannah Jr.

Foot washing at The Blessing of God Ministry

LEXINGTON — The Blessing of God Ministry, 412 Westside Drive, will hold a foot washing service on Sunday April 24 at 3 p.m., based on the 13th chapter of John. The public is invited to participate in this worship experience. Chief Apostle Vanessa Taplah is the overseer of this service.

South Rowan will Walk for Water

LANDIS — On Sunday the South Rowan community will join with others to “Walk for Water” to raise awareness of the critical need for water that millions of people experience every day.

We will gather at 3 p.m. in the parking lot of Trinity Lutheran Church, 108 West Rice Street, Landis, N.C., and walk to Lake Corriher in Landis (1.6 miles). There we will fill our water containers (bring a bucket, plastic jug, etc.) with water from the lake and then carry the containers and walk (or drive) back to Trinity. We will be met by a representative from Water Mission (a nonprofit international water ministry) who will clean our lake water. We will end our walk around 4 p.m. with ice cream in the family life center and an opportunity to donate to Water Missions.

Those who don’t join in the walk but are interested in learning more about the ministry are invited to the post-walk event at 4 p.m.

Pre-anniversary at Mt. Calvary

Pre-anniversary Service at Mt. Calvary Holy Church, 1401 Standish St., will be held on Sunday, April 24 at 4 p.m. The guest speaker will be Bishop Robert Melton of Gates of Zion in Midway.

First Presbyterian’s service of wholeness and healing

First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury will hold a Service of Wholeness and Healing at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary. “Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord.” James 5:14. Host pastor is Dr. Jim C. Dunkin.

Combined services held at Landis First Assembly

LANDIS — A combined worship service involving several area churches will feature evangelist and singer Doug Day in concert on Sunday at 6 p.m. at Landis First Assembly, 302 E. Corriher St.

Day, from the middle west, sings traditional style songs, many of which are his own compositions. A free-will offering will be received for his ministry.

Anniversary services conclude at Word of Life 

Word of Life Family Worship Center, 726 East Liberty St., will hold a special service to conclude the 37th Pastoral Anniversary Services for Dr. Martha Starks, on Sunday, April 24 at 6 p.m.

The guest speaker will be Pastor Robyn Gool of Charlotte.A graduate from ORU where he attended on a tennis scholarship. He laid aside his aspiration to be a tennis pro when he accepted his call to the ministry in 1972. In 1980, Pastor Gool began an independent ministry, Victory Christian Center, in Charlotte that is committed to outreach and helping people understand their rights in Christ.

Pastor Gool is the author of eight books and can be heard and seen daily on the More Than Conquerors radio and television broadcast. Dr. Martha and Elder Clinton Starks are the host pastors. For information or transportation, call 704-633-2431.

Spring revival at The Vineyard

The Vineyard Worship Center, 2655 Dunns Mountain Road, will have their Spring revival April 26-28. The speakers for the week will be:

Appreciation service at World of Faith 

World of Faith Outreach Ministries, 5370 Stokes Ferry Road, will  congratulate Pastor Kimberly Bost on her 23rd appreciation service. Services are April 28 and 29 at 7 p.m., with no service April 30, and ending May 1 at 3 p.m.

FUMC Spring Fest

The FUMC 2016 Spring Fest is Friday, April 29 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Salisbury fellowship hall. There will be a fundraiser/silent auction with proceeds going toward rebuilding the children’s outdoor playground. Lunch will be available for purchase.

Blood drive at Concordia Lutheran Church 

Concordia Lutheran Church will be hosting the Red Cross Bloodmobile on Friday, April 29 from 3-7:30 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome or you can make an appointment online at www.redcross.org. Concordia is located in Hwy 152 West in China Grove.

Free family dinner in Granite Quarry

GRANITE QUARRY – On Friday, April 29, Granite Quarry Fellowship, 300 Legion St., will be offering a free family dinner from 6-8 p.m. The dinner will be a time for fellowship and offer a break from financial worries. St. Paul’s annual Cruise ‘n Barbecue 

The sixth annual Cruise ‘n Barbecue at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 205 St. Paul’s Church Road, benefitting the church’s Helping Hands Ministry, will be held Saturday, April 30. The day features a morning Poker Cruise; a classic car, street rod and motorcycle cruise-in and car show; music; Port-A-Pit Chicken; and door prizes. The event will be held rain or shine. Blackwelder Park Baptist homecoming

Call for singers

The Piedmont Choral Society is planning its popular “All Patriotic Music” concerts. Anyone who loves to sing is welcome to join the group for these concerts. No audition and no prior musical experience is required — just come and sing. Rehearsals begin on Monday, June 6 from 7-8:30 p.m., and continue on Monday nights at Forest Hill UMC.
