DAHLONEGA, GEORGIA — A pair of losses ended the season for the Catawba College softball team, eliminating it from the NCAA II Southeast Regional here Friday afternoon.

The fourth-seeded Catawba team opened the day with a 1-0 loss to defending national champions and top-seeded North Georgia. In the losers bracket, the Indians fell to Georgia College, 3-0.

Catawba concludes its season with a 39-16 record. North Georgia (52-6) and Georgia College (41-17) will meet on Saturday in the championship game.

In the opening game with North Georgia, the Nighthawks tallied their lone run of the game in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly.

Catawba ended the game with five hits and five runners left on base but only managed to put two as far as second base.

In the elimination game against Georgia College, the Bobcats scored a run in three of the first four innings of play. A two-out, bases-loaded passed ball allowed Georgia College’s Danielle Bernstein to score the first run in the bottom of the first. Bernstein scored again in the third after she sprinted out an infield single to reach base. After stealing second and advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt, a single to left center by Abi LeRoy brought another run home.

The Bobcats would secure the win with a pair of doubles to open the fourth inning, taking the 3-0 lead.

Kristen Stinnard and Gina Gerone each recorded two hits in the opening game. Four different Indians recorded the four Catawba hits in the second game. Morgan Brann was the only Catawba player to record an extra-base hit with a double in the second inning against Georgia College.

Senior pitcher Carley Tysinger took the mound losses in both games for Catawba and fell to 32-11 on the year. Tysinger allowed 14 hits in 13 innings of work. She struck out a total of 13 batters in her final career outings, ending the season with 419 strikeouts. With 1,361 strikeouts during her career, Tysinger finished No. 8 all-time in NCAA II.

Courtney Poole improved to 51-2 for the Nighthawks with the shutout on five hits. Brooke Taylor (8-2) pitched a complete game for Georgia College and allowed just four hits while striking out one.
