For 2016, the Riot in the Pasture has been transformed to Riot in the Vineyard, to be held Sunday again at Morgan Ridge Vineyards in Gold Hill.

The event highlights local food and local chefs and benefits the Bread Riot and its Share the Harvest food aid program. Share the Harvest is a new program that is intended to recover unsold produce from various sources, primarily the Salisbury Farmers’ Market (at least initially) and distribute to needy families. It’s focused on working with child care centers, including St. John’s Child Development Center, Partners in Learning and Cornerstone Child Development Center. 

The Riot will include food from Morgan Ridge Chef Jason Nain and a barbecue battle featuring pigs from Wild Turkey Farms, Two Pigs Farm and Thomas Family Farm. A Cajun inspired buffet is also offered, along with plenty of vegetarian options and at least one vegan option.

Look for honey glazed hushpuppies, Southern Melange Slaw made of fennel, napa cabbage, collards and kohlrabi; sweet potato salad, chicken and sausage jambalaya with ingredients from Rowland’s Row Family Farm, Wild Turkey Farms, Bear Branch Milling; black eyed peas with squash chow chow, kale and mixed green salad with chambourcin dressing; wild mushroom and spinach quiche with contents from Two Pigs Farm, UpsideDown Farms, vegan vegetable sauté and tomato capresé salad.

Morgan Ridge wines will be served, along with their beers, including two special brews made with Rowan County barley. New Sarum Brewing Co. has also donated a full lineup of beers and has crafted a special beer for the event. Their beer is also made with local barley and hops.

Three bands, Blue Love with Seth Grigg, Courtney and the Bourgeoisie and Big Break will perform. The event is scheduled for 3-7 p.m.

Tickets are $30 in advance for adults and $40 at the door. Children 5-15 are $15; children under 5 get in free.
